Help me!!! First time comp builder. I have everything set up as it says to in the manuals of my mobo and other drives.... my display dosen't come up though. Everything sounds like it is running, cpu coolers, hd, case fans, dvd is on. Also, the power button isn't working, nor the lights for the power and reset buttons.

Computer in question is the computer in my signature, running on a tyan tiger dual amd board (s2460). The graphics card is a prophet 2 agp, the card is good, I had it in my friends computer the other day.

Any help would be appreciated, also, there are no beep codes or anything like that, just having problems with the display and the power button.

there is a switch on my power supply that seems to do the trick.... I could live with the power button problem, but as far as the display... well I don't know about that.

just tried to install my old voodoo 4 in the new comp, still nothing. I know about having to have sequental ordered cpu's for a dual system to work, even though these cpu's came from the same box, what would happen if they wernt sequentally ordered? the system would still boot up right...

sounds like you have the case wires hooked up wrong....power wire..hd led...power led....check your manual closer.....as for no display..try reseating your video card and not putting a screw in to hold it down, just to check it....might pull it out of the slot...

I've gone over the wiring diagram 10 times.... ohhh, me and this dual processor thing.... (heh :) ) tried the vid card, still nothing.

EDIT: maybe no power to the mobo... any way to check this?

are any cpu fans plugged into the mother board...that would be one way...maybe feel one of the cpu's by the heatsink...is it warm.???will try to think of some other ways to tell with out a dvom

yep, the heatsink is warm. I was thinking about a bad mobo too, can't be though, I got the switch problem worked out, and both cpu fans are plugged into the motherboard as well. What about a fried cpu(s)? I would've noticed a smell or smoke or something right?

I flushed my ego down the drain and called the local computer store, they didn't know what was going on with the vid either... but then again, the local computer store is best buy.... heh.

well the good news is power to the m/b..the bad is what now..i dont think 2 cpu's would be bad..try the board with just one cpu first....do you get any beep errors...any sounds.??? read your manual (again) and double check all the jumpers are in the right place....if the fsb jumper is at 100 try 133.... what other jumpers you have on board????

fsb jumpers are 200 or 266, both are default at 266... just checked them to make sure. the cmos reset jumper, default at 1-2, normal, and it's there. the other jumpers are reserved and chassis intrusion, they shouldn't matter.

why wouldn't it display though???????

edit: just saw this while reading the manual... "at least one registered ddr dimm must be installed for the system to post"... my ram isn't registered.... wouldn't I still get a display?

only thing i can think of is to strip everything out,..and start fresh..first reset cmos..switch the cmos jumper..take the battery out and unplug the motherboard connecter to the power supply..after 10 minutes plug back in..switch cmos jumper to normal..put battery in.....try 1 cpu(or both)...one stick of ram....floppy drive..hard drive..video card...thats all for now till you get it to boot to bios.....good luck...

edit....make sure your board isnt touching the case anywhere...if you can run it out of the case while you do the above things

touching the case? ehhh... it's on the mounting pillars right now, the instructions just said to put the board on the top of the brass pillars and then screw the screws in, no insulating rings or anything.

I got a post on the cpu forum, he said he has worked with this board before and it won't post unless I have registered ram in it, I don't have registered ram. I'm going to order a few sticks tomorrow and have them rushed to me. Think this is the problem?

Probably ;) Hehe.

<edit>
If you can not get Crucial to give ya a credit on the non-registered ram, I'll buy one of the sticks from ya for whatever Crucial lists them on their website for ;) Just doing what I can for a fellow AMD'er ;)

well unfoutunatly I bought the unregistered ram at googlegear.com, I not found out that I took it deep in the ass. they want 85 bucks for ddr 266 256 registered while crucial.com wants 42... something like that. I would be happy to sell the stuff I have, but to save myself I would have to sell it for 45 bucks a stick (shipped), and thats fairly high, don't want to rip a fellow amd'er off or anything. if you want it drop me a line at: dbcrossfire@yahoo.com more than likely I'm going to send it back to googlegear.com they have a 15 moneyback guarentee.

alright, I just ordered 512 of crucial ddr 266 REGISTERED ecc ram.... ohhh I hope this is the problem, I had them same day ship it to be (supprisingly it was only 10 bucks to do this).

Good did come from this, after I decided to give it up, I striped the case out, cut new holes for my 120mm panaflo fans and painted the frame of my antec 1030b a dark metallica blue, gm 1725 i recall (auto paint has some really cool colors). It looks pretty cool, anyone else have a 1030b they modded? I need some more ideas.
