Ok here's the deal. I just picked up an AMD Tbird 1ghz, and MSI K7T Pro 2a motherboard. Here's the problem, I am getting lower 3dmarks with this setup than I was with my P3 600@840 system. Everything else is the same, video/hard drives, etc. I went from 5500 3dmarkd with my p3 600@840 and my Leadtek DDR at default settings to 5200 3dmarks with the 1ghz Tbird and the DDR at default. Here are the system specs:

before and after:
P3 600@840
Abit BE6
256mb Crucial 7ns Cas2 PC133
Leadtek GeForce DDR
Win98SE
3dMark2000
Maxtor 30gb 7200rpm UDMA/66
Maxtor 20gb 7200rpm UDMA/66
Toshiba 40x scsi cd

after
Tbird 1ghz
MSI K7t Pro 2a
384mb Crucial 7ns Cas2 PC133
Everything else is the same.

If you guys could help I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you tried a different benchmarking program other than 3dmarks. Also how about trying some various bios settings. Personally i wouldnt trust 3dmarks if u ask me.

You probably need to install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers. Go to their website and get them. That will cure you. If that doesn't, you probably need to do a format of your HD cuz the way your windows was installed was sorta "customized" for a pentium, which could be hurting performance.
You may also need to set your bios. A common error is not turning DMA on.

you could try some other Benchmark software as Shurato mentioned. Try Sandra SiSoft. It is a good peice of software. I have been using it for ages and its pretty accurtae I think.

SKY.
