Earlier this week Amazon updated the Fire 7 and 8 HD tablets to be able to use Alexa hands free. So I was curious if I could turn my unused Fire 8 HD into an Amazon Echo.
I installed the update and it was ready to go. It will respond to Alexa commands unlocked anytime, but apparently needs to be plugged in for it to respond to Alexa with a locked screen. I paired my Fire tablet to my Google Mini (tablet speakers are not very loud) and am loving this. It's working great. I have it playing my Prime Music playlists and stations.
Pretty happy this update brought new life into my unused tablet.
