My finished DVD-R doesn't look right on TV

I don't know how to quite put this, and I don't know for sure if this is the right place to post, so any positive help would be appreciated.

Anyway, I have been having a problem with the finished product of a burned DVD. When I complete a project, I can play the finished DVD on my computer with no problems. I can see all of the screen. Now, when I take that same DVD over to my home player, when I play it, it has a "zoomed in look" and cannot be adjusted. The sides are "missing" off the screen. I don't have another DVD player that supports DVD-R/RW to test out on, so I am wondering if I need to buy another DVD player, or try to fix some sort of settings in my program or what. I'm confused. I have tried 2 different DVD burners and 4 different programs with the same result. Right now I have Vegas 6

If anyone can help me, I thank you in advance.

If you require any extra info to help me, just ask, and I'll post back.

Sounds vaguely like maybe some sort of problem with the aspect ratio (like maybe you mastered the DVD as 4:3 but it's widescreen material, so your standalone player cuts off the sides, but the computer player is smart enough to not do that). I'm not a DVD authoring expert, but I'd check out doom9.org and see if you can find more info on what the problem could be.
