A semi quick-fix is to take Advil or a similar anti-inflammatory and see if that helps to releive the pressure.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
>>

Sluggo,

I was about to say the same thing. Numbness/tingling in the fingers (especially the thumb and first two fingers) is the most obvious warning sign of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

lowfatbaconboy,

How well can you feel with the finger(s) that you feel the symptoms most in? I had a nasty battle with CTS a few years ago when I worked at a lumberyard for the summer, and I lost all feeling in my thumb and first two fingers (and a little feeling in my ring finger). At its worst, I was able to stab a pin into my pointer finger without feeling it. Sound familiar? Get yourself checked out, or at the very least, take some precautions to prevent nerve damage.

Get yourself an MS Natural Keyboard (or one of the clones) if computer use is the leading cause of your symptoms. Pick up one of those mousepads with the gel pad to rest your wrist on, too. As Sluggo already stated, take an anti-inflammatory--600mg of ibuprofin (Advil) is what was prescribed for me.

CTS can be quite painful (and in extreme cases, debilitating), but it is also quite treatable. From your basic description, it sounds like that might be what's causing your numbness. You might want to purchase two cheapo wrist braces to wear at night (one of the worst times for those who suffer from carpal tunnel syndrom; 'incorrect' positioning of the hands while sleeping worsens the condition, and the pain seems to be at its worst at night since there are no other distractions).

In my case at least, the wrist braces, combined with ibuprofin (and finding a new job ;)), did wonders. I wore the braces for a month non-stop until the pain decreased, and then only wore them at night. I lost so much dexterity in my fingers (I used to paint model cars and planes with a single-hair brush, but with CTS I was unable to brush my teeth one-handed), but all of it came back since I caught it and began treatment so early.

If carpal tunnel syndrome is your problem, don't mess around with it. Treat it early, even if you only do it on your own, and you'll drastically reduce your chances of permanent nerve damage. You might also want to check out your "workspace" (the computer :D) and see if you can re-position things to reduce the stress on your wrists.

Hope this helps...

thanks alot guys =) really

its more of a tingling feeling than an numbness but i can't feel textures very well at the moment with my index and middle finger b/c i just feel the tingling when i touch stuff

im wondering if i hit my arms wrong in volleyball or something...wonder if i should stop playing that everyday with my friends(i been doing that for a week now)

and i do have a MS natural keyboard (hate the normal keybaords at school on which i have to do C++ programing so friggin frustrating)

edit: ibiprofen taken now i guess ill try not to sleep on my hands/arms incorrectly

If what you are experiencing is carpal tunnel syndrome, I wouldn't cut out the volleyball or any other physical activity. CTS is caused by only a few very specific activities, none of which have anything to do with most sports. Just take it easy, and get some braces (or even Ace bandages, if you don't feel like shelling out the cash for braces) and secure your wrists for awhile. Keep in mind that CTS does not come from any single traumatic shock to the hands or wrists; instead, it builds up slowly...constant hand motion in the 'incorrect' position inflames the carpal tunnel, putting pressure on the nerve which causes the numbness, tingling, and pain (if it gets real bad, you'll be lucky enough to experience random twitching in your thumb and first three fingers :D).

Since you already have a 'natural' keyboard, you might want to pick up one of those gel pads to rest your wrists on. Make sure your wrists are resting straight while you are working on the computer, and you should be fine. CTS is caused by rapid or repetitive movements while the hands are bent in an 'unnatural' position, which leads to the inflammation. By making sure that your hands are resting straight, reducing the stress on your wrists, you should be able to eliminate the numbness and regain the dexterity in your hands and fingers that you are used to.

It is fun to mess with friends and family by pushing needles or pins into your fingers without flinching, though. :D One of the fun benefits of carpal tunnel syndrome... ;)
