Took some 200 mg ibuprofen... I was playing the drums, and WHAM, the top third of my right index finger hits the sharp rim. Instant blood, HUGE pain (still hurts), and a nice bruise. This sucks.

Bummer duude...
That's why I wear work-out gloves when I jam on my set
But for me, playing bass guitar really gets irritating on my fingers.. I hate playing with the pick though.
Why play with a regular pick? Get the finger picks like I use. Sure, they look like you're wearing claws, but man, do they ever save on the fingers. But for me, playing bass guitar really gets irritating on my fingers.. I hate playing with the pick though.

uh when you hit your finger with a stick on the rim, you hit it with a lot of force. The rim isn't 'sharp', but think about this: When you use the same pair of sticks, they begin to get shredded and eventually break due to hitting them on the rim inadvertantly while playing. while the rim is somewhat rounded, when your finger is there and you accidentally hit it, it hurts. Depending on the angle, it could fairly easily draw blood. Jmmsbnd007, sorry to hear about that man, That hurts!! i hate it when that happens
MINE IS! By the way, did I say snare? If I did I actually meant floor tom. It's a cheap part, it's somewhat smooth but with the little raised ring on top of it. More of a very severe abrasion for the cut.Originally posted by: MichaelD

Hit it on the floor tom. Been playing for about 2.5 years, I was jamming. Damn that hurt! I call it the injury drumset now... in 5 minutes I hit my fingers numerous times and then this baby put me out of commission for a while... and I usually don't get hurt at all...Originally posted by: KGB
How long have you been playing? And what did you hit it on?
I cut myself on the crash cymb once, dumb move. Ohh well not like I hit heavy very often anyway. I'm more of jazz drummer than a rocker.

I'd be afraid about the plastic durability vs wood...Originally posted by: KGB

<again> Bummer Duude...Everyone has their off days man... it'll be alright in about a week.
I was looking into getting a electronic setup myself, so I don't have to deal with the hardware anymore. Ive been looking at some Roland models... they're all plastic and don't "hit" back. Plus you can always add real hardware to the set afterwards![]()
