My f'ing printer won't print all of a sudden

Ok, so I need to print out some resumes and cover letters, today. I go to print, and within 2 seconds of hitting print in Word, I get the printer icon in my system tray with the message 'this document failed to print' with no real explanation...my printer worked fine last time i used it...I replaced the black ink cartridge today so i thought maybe that was it, i tried putting the nearly empty one in, but got the same error message. The new cartridge is the correct one, the printer cable is fine, i've got the right printer selected, I've tried rebooting, and turning the printer on and off, and none of this works...I'm kinda feeling fux0red here, I need to print this stuff off ASAP

Do you have a spare printer cable to try? I've had one go bad on me, went nucking futs for weeks trying to figure it out before considering that option... and that's what it turned out to be 😱

If you could give us the printer make/model, operating system, and usb/parallel it would be much easier to take some guesses 😉

HP Deskjet 950C, parallel, windows xp sp2...

oddly enough one of hte times it just randomly printed off a test page for no reason, but still won't print anything else

Mine will hang like that if someone leaves it powered on during a power cycle on the comp. Try powering off the printer and restarting windows.

Only thing else off the top of my head would be to try the cartridge alignment from the troubleshooting page?
