My find of the day

Ran across an Onkyo TX-SR601 receiver at a used furniture store today and bought it for $50. Just ran some quick tests and it appears to be fully functioning! That's a 90% discount off original retail price, not bad for 6.1 100W/ch.

/brag thread 🙂

They sell electronics at Thrift stores?! 😱

Actually it was a used furniture store (fixed OP). Apparently they cleaned out some house from someone who died and bought a truck load of stuff to sell, but haven't been able to sell the receiver so they stashed it in a corner. They had it labeled as an Onkyo TX-SR06 😛.

Nice find but it has no HDMI support, no Audyssey, only one digital coaxial audio input, none of the new lossless audio formats.

However it has multichanel input which could turn it into an over the top computer amplifier.

It all depend what you want to do with it. How are you going to use it?

nice find.
reminds me of when i found a near mint condition pair of Advent bookshelfs at the Salvation Army when i was in HS

best 20$ i ever spent

Ironically, I was looking for a cheap stereo receiver for my kitchen when I ran across this. Gotta say that $50 is the cheapest HT upgrade I've ever had.

It's going to replace my Onkyo TX-DS575X receiver, which was roughly the predecessor to the SR601. Mainly used in my living room for music, HTPC, DVDs and OTA HD channels. And my xbox 1 🙂. I built the whole system pre-HDMI so everything uses my Harmony remote to switch inputs.

Only 1 digital coax, but 3 digital optical inputs.

Nice score! Every time I go into a thrift store I look for electronics and old speakers, so far nothing to report... (I had a customer tell me that he took his old advent towers to a goodwill because the cat had scratched up the grills. I died a little inside...)

I have so many old receivers that people were just going to throw away when I was doing home install. I've been giving them to friends lately as I have made peace with the fact that I will never use them.
