My fighting cat... what can I do?

Over the last month, some house near us has got a new cat, and my cat is taking a lot of abuse from it.

My cat is a 6 year old tabby and he's been neutered. He is a very calm, gentle, content cat, that loves to be around people and such.

Now I don't know anything about this other cat, but I am basically having to break up the 2 cats in huge fights (I've got lots of scars now).

My cat is all cut up and scratched, all over the top of his head, on his neck, his ears and his nose. I'm worried my cat is gonna get really hurt one of these times.

Obviously I'd love go and beat the sh!t out of this other cat, but obviously thats not an option. This cat's owners could think of their cat just like I think of my cat.

The problem is our cats just don't like each other.

Once I find out who owns the other cat, is there anything I can do?

If their cat isnt neutered, do I have any right to tell them to get it neutered? I don't want to have trouble with whoever owns the cat.

Leave a bowl of antifreeze out mixed with a little milk....
you'll never have to worry about the other cat again.

er...lock your cat inside first.

Really all I can think of is talk to the neighbors. If they are reasonable they may be up to sharing times. Ie, your cat goes out during first half of day and their's goes out in the latter half. I can't think of any other way to do it.

Trap it and do it yourself.

Or rather trap it and take it to the vet to have it done.

Best thing you can do is take this "fighting cat" to a shelter... it's really a good idea... 1) you won't get scratched up anymore 2) your cat will be safe 3) the shelter will find a home for him.

Post up a few FOUND CAT signs too if you want, that might work.

You don't have many options as far as I can see, unfortunately. You need to talk to the other cat's owners to see what they say (if both cats are indoor/outdoor, maybe a schedule where the cats are never outside at the same time can be worked out).

Your other option is to keep your cat inside. I have a neighbor who got a kitten and promptly stuck it outside, where the poor thing routinely got beat up by the neighborhood stray (he has a refuge at my house now) and the fights got pretty ugly. Puncture wounds from a fight can be hard to spot, but they can be dangerous if they get infected and it'd be awful to see either cat getting seriously hurt.

Maybe another option is a fence (regular chain link or one of those invisible kind)???

Good luck.

<< keep your indoors. >>

Not possible. 1 day max before he starts howling to get outside. He doesnt stop till he's out. (then he comes back inside like 5 minutes later).

2 years ago, he got hit by a car and we had to keep him inside the kitchen for a month. Good god he wasn't happy about that :)

Catch it, then Fedex it to the UPS president.

Or give your kitty some armor paddings and sharpen its nails.

Neuter it yourself. "Oops kitty does that hurt? I forgot to tell you that I don't have any painkiller."

Should be well under $100 to neuter it. If your neighbors are nice you could even offer to split it.

If their cat is the agressor, it's their responsibility to neuter it. Otherwise you have the unwritten right to buy a $2 do-it-yourself neutering kit (a.k.a. razor blade) and take care of the cat free of charge. If it's their cat that's to blame, it should be their responsibility. :)

Get a Rottwieller puppy. Your cat will get along with the puppy and Rottwiellers are extremely nice to anything they grew up with. Big surprise for the unwelcome cat a year down road.

At least your cat is neutered. This is why almost every pet expert and vetrenarian insist cats should be indoor pets. It sounds like your cat is wandering into the other cat's territory. Catfight always follows.

'You can the get the cat out of the kittylitter, but you can never get the kittylitter out of the carpet.'

If your cat is declawed, keep it safe inside.
If your cat is not declawed, do not declaw your cat.

I am not a real cat owner, hell I don't even play one on TV, I just read a lot catlover forums.
