We are getting married in a few months and she has been working hard on giving me a wedding present. I found out this weekend what it was, my Mustang. A year ago we both traded our cars in and bought new ones, I bought an Explorer and she bought a new Mustang. I never knew how much I would miss that '89 5.0 until a few months later, and the feelings have grown ever since. I bought the car brand new when I was 18 and spent some of the best years tweaking, tuning and racing it. All of my friends, and especially the ones who have Mustangs too, about killed me when I traded it in. They always used to tell me how strong the car ran and they wished theirs could be that strong, live through the gear-banging abuse I put it through, and still smoke 'vettes and Camaros with 200,000 miles on the original motor.

This weekend we drove about an hour away to the man who had the car and bought it back from him. He didn't want to sell the car at first but he finally gave in. He said he's rode in several Mustangs but mine was the strongest he had been in. In the past year the car had been though three people. The first owner was a father who bought the car for his son. His son was arrested a few weeks later for, according to the police report, "evading law enforcement officers at over 160 mph". The father then sold it to his neighbor who shortly sold it to a car lot. Then the older man who we purchased it back from bought it. What a sight for sore eyes it was Saturday afternoon. The Mustang is still in good shape it just needs a good cleaning. The paint was starting to dull somewhat when I had it, and has aged some more, but the car itself is still in great shape and still runs like a "Bat Out Of Hell". After all I just had to "test" it and be sure!! There was nothing like riding back home listening to that V-8 rumble down the highway.

The car has only 4,000 more miles on it than when I had traded it in. I'm going to spend this winter cleaning the interior and replacing anything that may be needed. My fiancee has already told me I could do whatever it takes to get my car back in brand new condition. So after 217,000 miles the time may be nearing where I may consider replacing the motor seeing as how I've got the time. Now only one question remains, what brand supercharger do I want??? ;)

<edit>Thanks AndrewR, that's what I get for skipping the spell check.<edit>

You're right -- she sounds like a great woman. However, you may want to refer to as your "fiancee" or people might think you're marrying a man. :)

Congrats on the car, too!

You know its only a car...and only an old one at that, but that really is a good story :) You do realize, of course, that you can never sell this car again? When it needs a rebuild of the motor go for it, if somebody rear-ends you, fix it! You could keep it for ever and keep making it better and better - BTW, its cool that it was in a high-speed chase hehe.

That is a cool story. There aren't many women out there like that. Usually their attitude is just the opposite when it comes to our other diversions (read: toys).

As far as superchargers go, I'd go for a Paxton. I'm not crazy about the Vortech and it takes forever and a day to get something from BBK, assuming they have one for the Mustang.

Sounds like a keeper to me. My wife is also very understanding when it comes to my Oldsmobile. I have owned it since 1982. I was in need of a paint job so she said I had better paint it before the baby came so I proceded to spend about $4,500 on paint(1998 Trans Am red with Glasurit paint), various body parts interior and what not. With the new paint the wheels looked like crap so I bought some Centerlines and new Dunlop tires. after a year I wanted some BFG Drag radial so she let me get some of those and I think I might get to spend some of our tax money next year on some Edelbrock Aluminum heads.

As far as a S/C ,I'm not big on the 5.0 but the Vortec seems to be a big hit, don't foget your motorsport heads and cam. :) Maybe some 3:73 gears to boot..

Stallion, it's already got a 3.55. The 3.73 was a little too much gear for the RPM range it's built for. As far as the supercharger goes I'm not sure which way I'll lean but I have time to figure that out. I just want a nice streetable car with plently of throttle to back it up. The Motorsport goodies will come which the long block assembly I'll replace the original motor with. The rest of the intake and exhaust bolt-ons I would need are already in place on the original motor.

Fetts, she can't get away, I'm too cute and irresistable!!! ;)

Not to throw water on your GF's actions (it is a cool gesture) but:

<< ... and still smoke 'vettes and Camaros with 200,000 miles on the original motor. >>

You have a serious reality problem, dude.
A friend of mine said it best: "Mustangs are for pimply faced teenagers working at McDonalds, who cannot afford a 'Vette."

You are now in the Lozer car club. Maybe you should find a Type R to race.

We're getting married in December Fetts, how about I post wedding pics??? :)

When I raced the car at the track I used to have no problems with most of those cars unless they were all out racers.

My mom used to say it best, "if you can't say something nice don't say it at all."

You have no business trying to thread-crap here. If you are thinking that no Mustang could ever beat a 'vette or a Camaro in the 1/4 or 1/8 you're the one who needs a reality check. Have you ever been to a dragstrip or do you just bench race??? I'm not saying 'vettes and Camaros are not fast cars, I'm just saying I could run better that the average ones.

Nope, the only question remaining is what are you going to do for her to show how much you appreciate what she did for you. ;)

Congratulations on the upcoming wedding!

Well first off a camero and mustang are pretty tight together anyway.

But he said spent some of the best years tweaking, tuning and racing it.

Now I don't think its unreasonable to say that a relatively tweaked mustang would have no problem taking out a corvette. Hell you can get a civic to do 0-60 in under 4 seconds with enough mods, and since a mustang isn't massively behind a vette from the getgo throwing in some horses would do it.

Nosy aren't we, Fetts??? ;) :D

I don't think I could ever top what she has done. I'll have to try but I'm sure it would never have the same effect.

I don't know about her, but some roses and a nice dinner would be a great start for me. You do still have to worry with the wedding present. You know you can't go wrong with diamonds. I live about 15 minutes from Winston, so if you live close by too, I have a great friend who works at Hanes Mall that I can refer to you.

OK, Psychoholic here's what you do.

First, spring for a Limo to pick her up from work.
Have Champagne with Strawberries in the back.
Then have it take her to a suite at a nice hotel where you are waiting.
Have a nice warm Bubble Bath waiting for her with more Champagne (how am I doin' so far Fetts?)
Have her favorite outfit ready for her. (unless you live together add breaking and entering to the gift)
Have the Limo take the two of out to a nice restaraunt for a candle light dinner.
After dinner and all that chanpange have the Limo take you back to the hotel....uhhhh, you can fill in the rest from there.

Sound good Fetts?

Pretty good Fathom, but it should be a little different for me:

1 - Roses at work
2 - Get home only to find a note that says we are going to Arigato's or Red Lobster for dinner (better during the week - Don't have to wait for a table)
3 - Have a few drinks while at the restaurant (mmmm)
4 - Go home and kick back on the recliner to watch a movie
5 - Invite friends over to hang out a little
6 - Retire to bed later that night, only to find a diamond bracelet underneath my pillow.
7 - I think you understand rest.
