My feet itch (upgrade time)

Question: Currently running an epox8k7a and an AMD Athlon 1.2 ghz.
I flashed my BIOS and now it supports XP processors, these things being so cheap I want to upgrade to a Athlon XP, but I hear that the motherboard is of questionable quality (compared to newer ones).

Question, if I have upgraded right now, to say a 1800+, how much of a performance hit would I take, say if I waited and then upgraded to an 8kha+ with the 1800+?

Also, can anyone point me to a tutorial or resources on motherboard chipsets? (Not familiar with them).

Thank you

You would probably get more answers if your nick was about a foot shorter and also if you did not have a childish sig file

I always thought the epox8k7a was of decent build quality....I can't understand from where you heard that ....

Anyway, the AMD 760/VIA686b should keep you within 10-12% of the 8KHA+. A good comparison would be over here

EDIT: typos in the URL 😱

The K7S5A wouldnt be a bad idea for you, but I suggest you keep the 8k7a! I dont see the money spent for a new board would help you see any real gain.

I did notice a a significant jump when going from a Kt133a to SIS 735! In your case I would keep the board for sure! I would wait for the Kt400 and the Tbred if I were you as well!

I dont know about those itchy feet but I know they are giving away some free head and shoulders shampoo in the hot deals forum!🙂
