Here's some of the free and very helpful PPC software that I use. I've found that finding software for the Pocket PC is pretty difficult. www.freewareppc.com is a good site, but a lot of the free programs are either buggy or they dont' work too well with newer/older versions of PPC.
Pocket Divx Encoder - Very fast and easy program to resize and recompress divx's.
The Core Pocket Media Player (betaplayer) - Basically, it's the Media Player Classic for Pocket PC. Supports most popular formats and gives you tons of options for configuring hotkeys and screen rotation.
Agile Messenger - Free AIM client. I can't stand the interface on the official AIM client..
Magic Button - Makes the X button in the top right actually close a program and it creates a task bar so you can switch between programs. Free and somewhat configurable. The added bonus is the little battery meter. I've tried LOTS of others and most of them just crashed my Axim or didn't work at all.
Cab Installer - Lets you control where CAB files are installed. I usually just download CAB files to bypass ActiveSync.
PocketDict - Freeware dictionary program that lets you load multiple dictionary files. It has a find-as-you-type feature too.
uBook - uBook is an ebook reader that supports HTML, TXT, RTF, etc so you can read all of those Gutenberg Project books. The latest version is no longer free so I'm still using version 0.8o. It can be found with some smart googling.
tAgenda - Actually lists your appointments and tasks on your today screen. There are a few others that do this like Calendar+ and Task+. I used to use Calendar+ and Task+ together, but switched to tAgenda because it's an all-in-one solution.
PocketRAR - WinRAR for Pocket PC and free too.
Battery Time - Shows battery time and uptime on the Today screen.
