"States should have the right to enact reasonable laws and restrictions particularly to end the inhumane practice of ending a life that otherwise could live."-Cleveland, June 29, 2000 (Thanks to Douglas Basford.)

"The only things that I can tell you is that every case I have reviewed I have been comfortable with the innocence or guilt of the person that I've looked at. I do not believe we've put a guilty ... I mean innocent person to death in the state of Texas." All Things Considered, NPR, June 16, 2000 (Thanks to Andy Nouraee.)

"This is a world that is much more uncertain than the past. In the past we were certain, we were certain it was us versus the Russians in the past. We were certain, and therefore we had huge nuclear arsenals aimed at each other to keep the peace. That's what we were certain of. ... You see, even though it's an uncertain world, we're certain of some things. We're certain that even though the 'evil empire' may have passed, evil still remains. We're certain there are people that can't stand what America stands for. ... We're certain there are madmen in this world, and there's terror, and there's missiles and I'm certain of this, too: I'm certain to maintain the peace, we better have a military of high morale, and I'm certain that under this administration, morale in the military is dangerously low."-Albuquerque, N.M., the Washington Post, May 31, 2000 --(does he know what hes talking about, or does he think he knows?)

GOV. BUSH: Because the picture on the newspaper. It just seems so un-American to me, the picture of the guy storming the house with a scared little boy there. I talked to my little brother, Jeb-I haven't told this to many people. But he's the governor of-I shouldn't call him my little brother--my brother, Jeb, the great governor of Texas.
JIM LEHRER: Florida.

"Reading is the basics for all learning."-Announcing his "Reading First" initiative in Reston, Va., March 28, 2000 (Thanks to Carl LaRocca.) --(that dyslexia kickin in, huh? he meant basis)
"I've got a reason for running. I talk about a larger goal, which is to call upon the best of America. It's part of the renewal. It's reform and renewal. Part of the renewal is a set of high standards and to remind people that the greatness of America really does depend on neighbors helping neighbors and children finding mentors. I worry. I'm very worried about, you know, the kid who just wonders whether America is meant for him. I really worry about that. And uh, so, I'm running for a reason. I'm answering this question here and the answer is, you cannot lead America to a positive tomorrow with revenge on one's mind. Revenge is so incredibly negative. And so to answer your question, I'm going to win because people sense my heart, know my sense of optimism and know where I want to lead the country. And I tease people by saying, 'A leader, you can't say, follow me the world is going to be worse.' I'm an optimistic person. I'm an inherently content person. I've got a great sense of where I want to lead and I'm comfortable with why I'm running. And, you know, the call on that speech was, beware. This is going to be a tough campaign."-Interview with the Washington Post, March 23, 2000 --(here is more of the mindless babble i was talking about)

"I don't have to accept their tenants. I was trying to convince those college students to accept my tenants. And I reject any labeling me because I happened to go to the university."-Today, Feb. 23, 2000 --(i dont know what he meant by tenants, but he meant something else)

"I don't want to win? If that were the case why the heck am I on the bus 16 hours a day, shaking thousands of hands, giving hundreds of speeches, getting pillared in the press and cartoons and still staying on message to win?"-Newsweek, Feb. 28, 2000 --(i think this is a first that a politician admits that they just shake hands and kiss babies to get into office, at least publicly that is)

"I thought how proud I am to be standing up beside my dad. Never did it occur to me that he would become the gist for cartoonists."-ibid. --(George Sr.'s middle name starts with a Dubaya too??? wow)

"Well, that's going to be up to the pundits and the people to make up their mind. I'll tell you what is a president for him, for example, talking about my record in the state of Texas. One of my favorite Boreisms is when he stood before a group of union members and said that, as a child, his parents sang him to sleep at night with the "Union Label" song. Of course, the song wasn't even written until 1976.

Then there's his childhood growing up on the farm and pulling a plow. Couldn't have been much a crop, though, since he grew up in an upscale DC hotel.

Bush stumbles on his words, Bore is just a liar.

So, you would rather have a liar? Bore is even worse than Clinton in that respect. At least Slick Willy only lies when he thinks he has to.

Want more Bore?

Check this out

Sorry, you were right - I paraphrased:

<< "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."--- Albert Gore on CNN?s "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer" (March 9, 1999). >>

Sorry, DanC, but you demonstrate your ignorance by accepting the Republican propaganda without checking the facts. This is from another thread:

Before we all keep repeating the Republican propaganda, let's put the silly accusations to rest...

From The Wall Street Journal, 9/28/2000, "The Non-Character Issue" by Albert R. Hunt, page A23:

"The most popular Gore hype happened last year when, in a TV interview, he said, 'I took the initiative in creating the Internet.' He did not, as critics charge, claim he invented the internet.

Mr. Gore indisputably was one of the first lawmakers to spot the potential of the internet and played an important role in federal support, most experts agree. Mr. Gore 'helped push through very important bills that set in place...the commercialization of the internet,' says David Farber, a University of Pennsylvania professor of telecommunications and chief technologist of the Federal Communications Commission."

And this...

"...the GOP nominee's exaggerations or misleading assertions rival his rival's...Mr. Bush declared that the military is so ill-prepared that two divisions would have to report not ready for duty. Not so. When Mr. Bush was embarrased by an interview he'd given about convicted killer Karla Faye Tucker that ran in Talk magazine, he became Clintonian. First his campaign claimed his comments were taken out of context. Then Mr. Bush declared that 'it wasn't a sit-down interview.' and that he 'didn't do the interview for Talk.' By any objective standard Mr. Bush has exaggerated considerably his business background, his military record and his achievements as governor."

Mr. Hunt further notes that both candidates have been guilty of exaggerations, but neither has done anything as serious as a lie under oath. Part of the Republican strategy is to smear Gore with Clinton's much more serious failings. In truth, other than exaggeration for self-glorification, neither one has shown that his statements make him unfit for office.

As I said before, The Wall Street Journal can hardly be viewed as part of the liberal media (unless you are the Reform Party's current candidate). Its editorial board makes no secret of a disdain for anything that is not Republican.

Who cares about the bragging and simple speaking mistakes the candidates stumble over? If that is what influences your voting decision, so be it. I would rather make the decision based upon where they stand on the issues that matter to me.

hahahahahaha danc :D

everytime i see the quote, i laguh

i still believe that gore meant that he worked to make the internet what it is today. im not too sure about the history of the internet in that sense, but i guess "if it werent for gore", it would still be called arpanet, REMEMBER, im not crediting gore with making the internet. thats why i put it in quotes, i dont have a better way of saying it.

as far as gore being a liar, he has not lied about anything serious, so what if he lied about singing a song. bush lied about doing coke. gore at least admitted his weed days, and at least he was IN the war, not the US guard in texas, ahahhaa.

p.s. im just getting involved in politics, so please excuse me if im not 100% accurate

jjm,

He didn't say I was part of the "group". He didn't say "we". He said "I".

Of course you, and that article, are ignoring the fact that the internet was actually "created" in 1969 by the Pentagon. Was Bore even out of college then?

Obviously neither of them [Gore, Bush] know what they're talking about when it comes to this stuff. The only point of significance here is that Gore tried to get credit for something (and yes, he DID try, and then retract after scrutinized) he didn't deserve.. fortunately he was criticized for it.

You can defend it all you want, but why bother?

Add up all these little "white" lies, and it's hard to think highly of this man. Everyone has lied, but some of the things Gore says are VERY BLATANT and intentional, and that makes all the difference in the world. Don't be foolish to think he wouldn't (and hasn't) lied about things on a larger scale.

Russ - As I alluded to in the post on Gore's statements, every politician will make his contributions to legislation sound like landmark achievements. No thinking person takes such claims seriously. Gore was a co-sponsor of the legislation that opened the internet up to commercial use. He, like every other politician, is trying to take some credit based on his part in the process. That hardly rises to the level of a lie. And, as noted in Mr. Hunt's piece, Jr Bush is just as "guilty" of embellishing his record and dancing away from the facts.

What is the point of all this stuff? Is there really a person posting in these threads who thinks politicians don't look for every opportunity to heap glory on themselves?
