I just buy index mutual funds like VFINX so while I make less than some, I make much more than the rest that guess wrong on their stock picks and lose big.

Google at $95 was a big risk, and at $300 it's an incredible one. They're doing well, but their position is much less secure than a real monopoly like Microsoft.

An index fund is considered the average, so half do better, half do worse.
