Not sure how I did it, but I somehow managed to fry my beloved p3 700 @ 933 :( Really didn't like putting in my old 566.... and not any faster celeron. :(

Decided to buy a 1.1 celeron and try the wire trick..... after looking at the pins..... I decided my eyes were too old for that crap. Ended up getting a abit st6 refurb for $50 and the 1.1 for $58 (retail) shipped.

Fired it up today, and it didn't want to do the 133 mhz bus. :( Bumped the voltage just a tad. :D 1.47 ghz. 3dmark has run for quite a while, no problems yet. Score of 6600+/- about 1200 more than the 933.

After selling my old p3b-f, this seems like a pretty good deal price wise. Would love to have a p4 or athlon, but the price of the ram I would need to buy was more than I cared to spend.

Anyway, just thought I'd share the info.

My total spent was $95 ($50 for the adapter, $45 for the chip).

The motherboard was 48.50 and the cpu 58.00 from Newegg. Shipping was free :) For a grand total of 106.50 - whatever I can get for my old motherboard. They seem to still fetch a decent price on ebay :) I'll find out in a week or so.

Still running great, did 15 cycles of 3dmark demo without a hitch. Played a little ut2003, too. Much better than the celeron 566.. :)

hehe I forgot to add....sold my PIII 850E on eb@y for $179.50, and the alpha P3125 for $15. So I was paid about $75 to upgrade after buying a new Alpha PEP66/t and Sanyo Denki Pico Ace 25 Fan.
