My experience with a spider bite

Wee...what a ride that was. I woke up on Sunday to go to work and when I got there, I started feeling nauseous. Stomach was acting up and I started feeling miserable. I began cold sweating and having chills. I felt absolutely sick and incapable of doing nothing but vomiting and putting my head down on my desk.

I thought I had some sort of food poisoning. But I had no breakfast that morning and last food I ate was Saturday night. I woke up fine but only started feeling bad on my ride into work, so I was having a hard time proving it was food poisoning. Plus there were no stomach or digestion problems other then vomiting. I ended up going home from work early and just crashed in an outdoor hammock.

It wasn't until later on that night that I started feeling better and was able to eat my first meal in about 24 hours. That's when I went to scratch an itch on my forearm and noticed a silver dollar diameter sized welt that was red and swollen. I noticed a double bite mark, holes maybe 1-2 millimeters apart. I'm pretty sure a spider could only make those types of bites(so could a snake but the small size and close spacing of the holes seemed to indicate spider).

Curiously, the bite was unnoticed by me until much later on. Its not a burning type of sting like a bee and it doesn't itch like a mosquito. I don't know when I had been bitten, possibly in my bed as I was waking up? Another curious fact, my urine smelled horribly, like when you eat asparagus. My only guess was my kidneys were cleaning the venom from my blood.

I still had some very minor symptoms on Tuesday but today, Wednesday I feel 100% better with normal appetite and no more symptoms. The underlying fact here is that I probably have a venomous spider somewhere in my house.

IANAD, but I don't think the two are related.

The spider bite probably happened while you were sleeping in the hammock. No way a bite like that would not itch for two days, then suddenly produce a reaction like you've described.

Fang marks (double hole) is the Black Widow. They only bite in fear of death. Probably sat on it outside.

You might be right but regardless of when the bite happened, it barely itched and for something of that size, it was surprising how big and swollen it was with no pain. Kinda incredible...

Even I'm not 100% convinced that spider venom was the cause of my symptoms, but it doesnt exactly fit food poisoning either. Dont know what else it could be...

When I had bite marks in my ankle joint and my leg was swollen from the knee down there wasn't any pain or itching. If you don't make your bed and leave the bedding loosely piled up a spider might build a nest there.

Damn seriously? I had swelling (the bite was near my wrist on my forearm) but it was localized swelling and not extending to the entire limb/joint. What kind of symptoms did you have? Did you identify the spider? I'm trying to learn as much as possible of what possibly bit me

Could have been a virus that you were exposed to anytime up to a couple of weeks before you developed symptoms.

All I know is that when I woke up my leg was swollen from the knee down and there was a bite mark on my ankle joint.
