...I just a got the big bad PC 70, goddamn this is a big PC case! I've upgraded to it from a generic full tower that I paid $55 for...i.e. was a P.O.S.
Before I bought this case [$265 w/ tax & shipping from Newegg], I had tried lapping my MC462 HS because it came w/ some sort of dirt on it. I tried various cleaners but flat ass couldn't get this stuff off. So I tried lapping it. Twice. I don't know what the hell I did wrong, using various grits and a piece of glass for flatness but both times it did not come out evenly mirrored, and raised my temps. So anyhow I ordered the PC 70 afte reading how great it is on various forums to use an aluminum full tower, cooling/airflow wise [PH 😉]. While the damage from improperly lapping my heatsink has been rectified a bit by switching cases, I think my motherboard is running a good 3 or 4C hotter. This is even w/ using 6 [count 'em!] 80mm U1A 47cfm Panaflos, the most this case will take w/out modifications. But, as I've said I think I royally screwed up my 462 HS, luckily I raked in enough cash for the B Day to be able to afford another 462 bare HS, the case, and the 4 Panaflo's I needed to max out the PC 70's cooling potential.
Aside from its cooling abilities, which I'll reserve judgement for on Monday when the new HS comes, the quality of this case is amazing. Going from a generic full tower POS w/ no quality control [i.e. metal from the factory that had NOT been de-burred that cut me a few times], and switching to this case is bigger than night and day. This case is gorgeous. I use an Enermax PSU, so I had to flip the back piece and mount the PSU at the top of the case, but no worries, that's not too big a deal. The fan control speed adjuster sucks though, on a setting of 3 [the highest], I couldn't feel any air coming out of the Panaflo's, but they were spinning. So I ditched that and plugged them right into the PS connectors. Other than that, I though this was supposed to have a mobo tray. It doesn't. You have to mount the mobo to the whole case, not a pull out tray. That does kind of suck.
So come Monday, I'll post again and some temps when I get a non-screwed up HS on here...😉
