I recently got a job at best buy, I work as a floor sales person for the computers department, now working there I've learned a lot about sales and how to sell people on something, however I have better knowledge of computers than the majority of the people that are selling computers, my supervisor and sales manager and the top sales person for computer sales dont even own a computer lol. I was always wondering about how much people really know, and their are a select few that really know their stuff, then their are people who are just really good at selling even if they don't know much about it. I see more of the selling type there. I like the job so far and am well liked because me and the other person i trained in with actually know about computers, and that was far and few to come before except the GeekSquad. I'll be making sure people that dont know bout computers learn something too... lol everyone who works their is awesome for the most part though, way better than my last job. Anyways I'm just sharring my experience with the board, if anyone's got any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck. Hope it works out. The BB employees here are dumbasses. My wife gets pissed off when I walk over and correct them when they are bullshiting customers. Not as bad as CC though. They escorted me out of there.

Congratulations on making it through your first week. :)

I do have a question, though. Has management started the brainwashing process yet for you to start pushing extended warranties on unsuspecting customers - even though the cost of the extended warranty might cost more than the actual item itself?

:D :D

Ah memories.

I had to try and sell extended warranties on free cell phone deals... talk about impossible.

I lasted 6 months till I quit. Two other co-workers that started at the same time or later than me quit as well during that time period.

Eh people dun tend to push em real hard, the profit made from them varies, some people end up making claims and that makes it less profit, but we're supposed to ask everytime, the thing that makes them profit is selling people accessories, like a 25 dollar usb cable for the printer. lol most the people who've bought extended warrenties so far as people that are rich over their heads lol, you know the people driving the BMW 7 series around, and buying plasma TV's and so on. I myself dont like the idea of extended warreties on desktops at all, but that's me, on laptops, since it covers batteries and crap, their easier to sell because theirs more chance they will use it. Oh and if anyone wants to know i found a catch in the policy, if any computer overheats, whether the computers fault or not its covered, so if a laptop cracked from sitting in the sun it's actually covered, I'm not sure about fires, but they should cover it with how it's worded lol.

Anyways I was before working at AMC Theatres Inc, possibly one of the worst companies in the world, my god do they hate their employees! I was promissed overtime pay for working 13 hours on christmas without pay, but they said nope the day after, if i try and do anything about it they'd fire me. The corporation views it's employees literally as slaves, and if at any second you are not sweeting from work, you get yelled at it's insane... at least at the one i worked at, they do now have labor lawsuits pending from a couple people i know now though lol, besides all that the ammount of self advertising they've gone to is insane, i will never ever see a movie at AMC at least paying for it. But seriously, AMC doesn't treat customers well, but it treats their employees like dirt, 85% of new hires quit lol within 3 months.

A word of advice for you from an ex-retail employee; I went to a different job about four weeks ago and after sixteen months of working retail, I was ready to start punching "customers".
Anyway. The advice is this: don't go out of your way to make sure that people have 100% correct advice if it's going to take you more than fifteen minutes to explain it. 99% of the time, it goes in one ear and out the other and then they'll be back, complaining and bitching at you personally or a manager. Believe me, the amount of times I've bent over backwards to help someone, and then they've come in ranting and raving because they didn't read the sodding manual was so unbelievably depressing that I had to leave retail or depression might have taken hold.

Work the hours, take home the money, and don't do anything more- it's honestly not worth it when you're dealing with ignorant, spoilt, stuck-up "customers" every single day.

Thanks - for 95% of people, retail work is unbearable. Those who stay the distance are those who can a) put up with the bitching customers or b) have nowhere else to go.

I never, ever want to do retail again. I'm perfectly happy with Field Service right now, thanks :)

Now you will HAVE to sell their POS Extended Warranty, or face dismissal. No way in hell I could do that to people. Hell, once they exercise that warranty, it's used up! What a fvcking scam that is. Sears offers protection agreements that allow as many over the counter replacements of your device, as needed during the warranty period. They even replace the device with a newer model, if yours has been discontinued. I could sell those left & right with a clear conscious!

I bet that the managers will be absolute hardasses about selling the POS Extended Warrantys.
