This was scarry. All I did was plug an additional fan to a 12v lead.
That same lead then proceeded to burn all the plastic off the red wire .. all the way up to the PS itself before I could pull the power cord.

I was lucky I guess.
And real lucky my R9700pro was undamaged also,,, (attached to the very end of the lead).

It burned its way up ... not down.

I'm not sure... the molex that was connected to my 9700 'Y' cable is burnt only on the red wire connector.
It wasnt the connector that I attached the fan to.
In fact,,, that fan is operating fine in my new case.
It's all crispy, and bare in some spots, all the way up from that molex to the PS.

Theres no indication that a cross occured inside the molex.

It looks lile I had a surge that was stopped at that molex. Probably because it wasnt a factory connection.

I have to remind you all,, that this is the same PS that had the 5v rail problem. And I did a cermet fix to raise the 5v rail to spec.
I think its just because ita a bad PS from the day I bought it.
This one I had, was purchased before they fixed the problem.

I'm also lucky because I bought a new Antec 430 trueblue for my new case.
It's awsome.
I was going to pass this PS into a PC I was going to build for a friend...
Lucky 3 times over... :p
