I know the car chargers are touchy but I've been using the colored chargers personally for a few years. Not saying they couldn't, I just haven't noticed anything about them overheating or anything.

Sorry to hear about that. Like 10 years ago, I attempted to purchase a laptop for $800 on ebay and it turned out the sellers account had been hijacked and the person stole the money and emptied the account. I reported it to paypal, but they did jack shit. I even worked with the cops in the area, and they felt bad but basically said there was no way to prove that he stole it etc..tough lesson about proper precautions .....only buying from 100% feedback sellers with at least 100 positive feedbacks as a seller if buying items worth much and if selling to make sure you always keep your paypal account empty and don't accept delayed payments.

Her name's Neena Agarwal... I'm sure they are in Cahoots... they need money so she can fly back to India every 3 months to get the "finest indian goods available"... I didn't know iPhones originated in India!
 
Well here's an update...

It ended up that paypal issued me a one time credit of $1600 in my account... Not sure why they did but after filing information with them again and again they gave me the money back into my account.

I was very happy... no idea if they pursued the guy themselves or what...

Best of luck to you OP, hope you get justice. The way I see it, the only justice is vigilante. If the popo won't do anything for you, you just have to take things into your own hand. Possibilities of what you can do to this guy is up your imagination. Just make sure you're smart about it. You don't wanna end up in PMITA prison doing something stupid.
 
1 year later: I'm selling an expensive unlocked iPhone 5 on eBay. The high bidder's Indian-sounding name reminded me of this thread.

Is there something I can do to make sure I don't experience this in the first place? Something that will discourage a scammer from even trying?
 
Record and take pictures of everything you are selling.

Document it was working, get the imei on video etc.. safeguard your product so when he turns around and says "IT"S NOT WORKING" etc

record how you packaged the iphone.

Who is race baiting?

The race is relevant, when trying to track down the owner. No different than if they owner were 7ft tall... "Hey there's a 7ft tall guy maybe that's him?"

It's a physical attribute, it's not race baiting.


Maybe there's an indian ebay scam ring going on?

Physical attribute would've been simply mentioning-"It was an indian guy who did this"

Race baiting is posting stuff like "I'd never think an Indian guy would stoop so low" so as to deliberately bring out people making fun of Indians and posting that guy with he gold shirt.

It's too bad that you don't have friends in the mob. They would have come up with a solution that would have been much more enjoyable for us to read 🙂

This doesn't work nor do video recordings of you opening the package (like Paulson did). Anyone can say that you could have staged either one (i.e. you packed the item with a phonebook, turned on your camera, and THEN recorded opening the package).

Really the only way video recording that would be believable is if you record the entire process continuously, including packing it and then dropping it off and paying for postage at the PO where it literally leaves your hands. The same goes for when you receive it from the P.O. where it touches your hands so nobody can say it's staged.

How many people are smart AND paranoid enough to do this? I'd guess 1% or less. As tech becomes more ubiquitous, then maybe it will become more prevalent. Scammers are betting you're in the 99% who aren't smart/paranoid enough to do it. For large purchase packages, I would suggest that everyone request a pickup from the location so it's received hand to hand (drop off won't suffice as evidence).
