My E4300 is idle at 41c

seems that compared to everyone else, this is pretty high. It is not OC, but I plan to if I can get the temp down a little

I have not tested it on full load though, After playing a game, it goes to about 53-55c or so.

What could be wrong? Seems like the way Intel packages the heatsink, you can't do the thermal strip wrong since it is preapplied.

Should I be adding any thermal paste to it at all?

What brand mobo and what speed is the cpu fan spinning? I initially had a problem on a DP965LT mobo where the cpu fan wuld not go above 1000rpm and the cpu stayed at 41C. The mobo was supposed to control speed, but never did. I think subsequent BIOS updates fixed the issue. my E6300 stays about 32C.

p965-DS3, I probably need to update the BIOS, it is F9 I believe. I'm at work now, but if I remember correctly, I believe the fan speed was about 600-700RPM. So you are saying this should be over 1000? I guess I just have to hope the update fixes it.

really? How much more will the temp go up by an OC to about 2.4 or so? Does this CPU keep the temps about the same if I clock it up just a little(not major) Or am I pretty much stuck at stock with these temps?

I thought C2D @ 65nm supposed to be more power efficient and run cooler no? May it's just the marketing hype.

to OP,

yes, it's a bit high, but i think it's still acceptable.

possible cause:
- HSF not installed properly/securely
- not enough contact force between HSF and CPU
- concaved CPU

in the last case, you could lap your HSF/cpu (at your own risk, google for instruction), or clean out thermal compound and apply a new layer

here's what i usually do:
- wipe both HSF base and CPU with alcohol to remove thermal compound
- apply a thin layer of thermal compound on CPU
- then add an extra grain of rice size drop at center of CPU
- mount HSF

before I do any hardware changes(fixes) I'm going to see if an overclock raises the temps too much.

I just bumped it up to 222*9 for 2.0 and will see how it goes. Idle temps seemed to be the same. I did this at lunch, so will check it again when I get back.

What is the best program for CPU stress tests for stability and temps? I'm running coretemp for my temps, just need something to stress CPU.

stock sounds pretty normal @ 41C.

I'm using a scythe ninja and idle for me is 31-32C

OK, I did another OC to 244*9=2.2

My idle is the exact same, between 37-40c for each core.

My load temps using Orthos is 60-61c. Is this acceptable?

What is the max load temps to run stable? I'm afraid to go any further than 61c, it seems that that is what you should stop at, is that correct?

I was hoping to get this up to closer to 2.5 with stock cooling.
