Ok, so the title basically explains my problem. Does anyone know a fix for this? If not, will replacing my current drive with another one work as long as the replacement is a slim drive? Any compatability issues I should know about?

How old is it? I think if it's still within warranty your best bet is to call Dell and have them send you a replacement.

LoL!

The optical drive in my ancient Fujitsu LifeBook quit working...

Simply removing it from my lappy, and reinstalling it did the trick!

I dunno, maybe the pins on the connector weren't making contact or something...

Anyway, it was a cheap fix! :D

Man, my e1505 backlight just up and died on me. Dell is fixing it tuesday. This is the only electronics purchase where getting the warranty was worth the cost (4yr plat). I'm so glad that I decided to pay the 150$ or so at the time. All of the problems I have had occurred after the 1 year time frame.
