my DVD writer does not seem to be working

Hello,

I've got an NEC DVD RW 3550A.

in the last couple of weeks when i place an empty DVD+R into the drive,
on the windows explorer it displays CD Drive(M: ). when i click on the CD drive(M: ), it
comes up with M:\ is not accessible. incorrect function". Can you tell me what is going wrong here.

I also tried to use nero - burning rom, but it turns up with Nero - Burning Rom has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of Windows, contact Ahead software.

nero works fine with xp/vista as far as i know
try burning with a freeware program.. imgtool burn or itunes or whatever
its also possible your drive is at end of life...they do fail

How old is the drive? My 3 yr old Lite-On died and showed similar symptoms.

i am running windows xp sp2 build 2600.

my nero version is 6.0

i burnt using cute cd/dvd and it works fine.

so imgtool or itunes are good freeware programs

Nero 6 is compatible with WinXP Pro SP2.
