My DVD ROM has skip attacks while playing DVD's

I'm using PowerDVD 2.55 . I have no idea why this is happening, I think it is actually my DVD-ROM choking from malfunction b/c my system isn't slow. Right now my system is underclocked (damn motherboard) at 466MHz (pentium 3), but I have 256MB RAM, 64MB DDR ATI Radeon and a 16X DVD-ROM so as I said, I doubt my system is too slow to keep up... perhaps even it's PowerDVD? Right now I don't have anything else to test it by, but I will check it out once I finish d/ling 3.0 . BTW, this only started happening yesterday and PowerDVD 2.55 always seemed to work fine. On all dvd's, it goes into skip frenzies every couple minutes or so, making the movie experience OH so unenjoyable!

Is the DVD-ROM on it's own IDE channel (Secondary Master)? Mine skipped until I took my CD-RW off as secondary slave. I have no clue why.

that's enabled... the odd thing though is that this did not happen until i reformatted my hard drive... hmm...

could it even be a motherboard beta bios that could be causing the problem? Cause I remember also updating my CUSL2 to a beta bios yesterday also... but I don't know if that would affect the IDE channels or anything huh?

nm, I flashed the bios back to an older final release bios and I just installed powerdvd 3.0... no soup for me
