My dvd burner won't burn

As stated above, I don't have enough hair to keep pulliing it out.... 😱

I replaced the motherboard in my computer a couple of months ago, and reinstalled windows. All seemed well, except my computer would lock up when I tried to burn a cd... this was with my old 12x lite on cd burner.

I'm fine with it, thinking it died at some point when I was messing with the rig, and order a lite on dvd burner from the egg.

This ones doing the same thing... It locks up hard and I have to hit the reset button to make nero go away.

EZ cd creator does the same thing btw.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

I would try replacing the IDE cable, and if there's a second optical drive on the cable, I'd disconnect that during my testing.

If you've replaced the mainboard and the burner, all that's left is what's between the two.

While holding down the WIndows key also press the Pause/Break key to bring up the SYstem Properties menu.

Click the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button.

Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives item by clicking on the + beside it.

If there's a yellow symbol by the entries there, you have missing or misinstalled drivers for your dvd burner. Reinstall.

If you don't have the driver(s) on CD-ROM, you can probably download them from Lite On.

Thanks for the help guys. I did finally get it working. I ended up not using the onboard ide controllers and using an add in card. For whatever reason, that fixed it. I really have no clue as to why.
