My Duron is getting too hot! Suggestions?

Using Asus PC Probe v2.12.07, my CPU temperature is 67C/152F and my MB temperature is 36C/96F. This seems way too hot, at least the CPU! I'm pretty scared that I'm gonna melt it. I am overclocking the Duron, it is originally 650 MHz and I'm running it at 900 MHz; also, I upped the voltage to 1.85. My HS/F is a PEP66 - it is blowing out hot air, and the heatsink is very warm to the touch though not unbearable. I used ArcticSilver for my thermal grease. My case fans are 2 80mm Panaflo (the quieter version) I run Win2k, and leave my computer on 24/7. What settings should I underclock? Also, as it is currently setup, the fan is blowing towards the power supply, but there is not much space between the fan and the power supply, so maybe the hot air is staying there? Is it time to reapply the ArcticSilver? Any other suggestions to make? Thanks!

Note: While writing this post I opened up my case and tried to clear some of the dust off the heatsink. Now PC Probe reports my CPU temperature is 59C/138F and my MB temperature is 34C/93F. Still, this is too hot!

Outside the temperature is about 77 F. I'm in a college dorm room with no A/C. I do have a fan running.

Try this... Hope it will help you...
Put maybe 1 or 2 System Exaughst blower cards in the back of your PC, and then maybe add a few fans near the front of the computer so that air is sucked into the computer through the wholes in the front. Or alternatvively take the case off which will lower the case temp.

Failing all of that take the cover off, and get a bigger Heatsink, and a Delta fan, warning the Delta fans are loud :( But the setup shoudl lower your CPU temp to maybe low 50s or so.

Hope this helps and good luck :)

I have the Antec KS282 case, and it has one case fan in the bottom front and one in the top back.

Oh yeah, I also run RC5. What kind of effect does this have on my temps?

shouldnt need a delta for a duron

how hot does the air get inside the case? like was said before if its getting hot you need a better arangement of case fans, (air in from the bottom out through the top is kinda the general rule) a case fan blowing air out the back right below the ps is one of the best things to cool down a case

if its still that hot then maybe the heatsink isnt flush with the cpu.

just some ideas

Boonesmi - that is pretty much my setup. Air going from bottom-front to top-back. My back fan is positioned right next to my CPU. I don't want a Delta fan, nor anything else that will make my system noisier.

RC5 wil raise temps I can tell you that, but it will nromally raise it by something liek less than 10C... Anyone confirm that?!

Well I just closed RC5 and already the temp has dropped 4C. Once I'm outta college and don't have this 24/7 connection, RC5 is going byebye.

Since it is near summer and the weather will be hot. Set the voltage lower and overclock less. Maybe run it at 800 at a lower voltage. When the temperture outside or room is cooler then overclock it to the max again. Thats what my friend use to do.

Is the clip on the heatsink tight? I'm guessing that the heatsink isn't secure, since temps are so high and the heatsink doesn't feel hot.
