Well...... here I am again! I can run at 108x8(862) fine. IO can run at 9x100 only if I turn the cpu off for a while, otherwise I can not get into windows. What could be the problem? I would think heat but my cpu does not go over 46c! I see lots of post where other people are in the high 40's or even 50's. Could it be that I am just at the limit of my cpu?

That's could be a possibility. You've already increased the voltage and you have a damn fine heatsink/fan. Did you use the pencil trick to unlock your CPU? If so, try going over the bridges again. Otherwise, me thinks that your CPU has hit a wall...

Thanks for the post. I am starting to think the samething. I runs fine now at 850mhz and it really does not get too hot. I just think it can not run any faster. Oh well... the video card is topped out anyway. It is really just for bragging rights. Although, I wish I had one gig.

abit kt7 raid, duron 600@defualt, 700@defualt, 750@1.75, 800@1.85, 900@1.94, 1g @1.94 not post.
with a little boost of voltage and a good hsf does push my 600 to the limit.
will keep it at 900 1.94v for a few months, if the price drop further will try boost tne voltage to 2.05 to see if it can reach 1g.
duron 600/900@1.94v, pal6035 hsf, max temp. under 48c, runs 3dmark 2000 overnight no problem.

Yeah. I hear ya (once again for that matter). Looks like you've hit the wall. Don't worry, there are many that have seen the same thing. Granted, it would be great to get 1G, or even 900MHz, but apparently some of the D600s just don't take it.

As for myself, I have a D600@850 1.9v, 103-107 idle, depending on how hot it is in this damn room. Might only be stable at 800 though. No HD right now.

gpl,

Your temps are low but maybe the thermistor under your cpu is not touching the core properly. The PAL 6035 is very good BUT the clip tension is usually not enough for Durons/TBIRDS. Its probably a real pain in the ass but I would remove your mobo from your case and check that the hsf is seating properly, also check the thermistor and reapply a very thin layer of Arctic Silver after cleaning the core and hsf.

You're right on about the thermistor. If it's not touching the CPU then all you're reading is the ambient air under the CPU. I made that mistake and when I reseated the thermistor to touch the CPU, my temp jumped 5°C.

Thanks for the advice. I just recently adjusted the thermistat to make sure it was touching. It mad the cpu run at 42-45C. What do you mean by saying make sure the hsf is properly seated? I have taken it out several times. Maybe there is something with the seating of the hsf that I am overlooking. I had two week 29 chips and the 850mhz seems to be the max for both.

Maybe I'm just lucky but my 600 is running at 1000 on a KT7-Raid with hardly a hiccup. Maybe it's all the extraneous BIOS/memory/all the other stuff tweaks that's preventing your CPU from posting at a higher speed, if you're doing it that is. I left all other BIOS settings at the defaults and concentrated more on getting the OC to work right first by tweaking just the multiplier and core voltages. I got mine to run at 850 with the default voltage. 950 w/ 1.6 and 1000 w/ 1.7 after approximately a week of burn-in at 900.

gpl, the clip on the Alpha (which I believe is designed for P3 FCPGA's) do not apply enough pressure on the TBIRD/DURON core. AMD states 12-10 lbs is required. The clip can be 'bent' to increase the pressure of the heatsink. With insuffient pressure the heatsink can sit, 'skew', not completely flat on the core. Search the Hardware forum, there is a recent post about bending the clip.
