I got my Pacbell self install kit the other day, but Pacbell told me the line wouldn't be active until the 19th. Well, just to try, I hooked everything up, installed RASPPPoE, and it works!! I'm only getting 320kbps down and 110kbps up, so I figure it's probably capped, but I'm not going to both to ask for it to be uncapped until after my due date. Is it normal for this to happen? I was under the impression that the modem wouldn't even connect to the CO until the 19th?

I am really happy with this so far, they got me my kit in 5 days, and my line is working 8 days before the due date.

I wasn't supposed to be activated until Feb 13th and it started working on Feb 8 when the technician came to check out my phone line to make sure it was OK for DSL. I was pleasantly surprised when I got home from school and found a note that said DSL was already working.

Mine was supposed to come on line May 15th, and was actually activated May 8th.:) I think if one happens to be in an area with good infrastructure, it is frequently up early. This was the case with all those around me who have had it setup. We can spit on the CO.:D

I am LOVING this right now. I have been on a dial-up for way too long. I bought the 384kbps-1.5mbps down setup, but its only doing 384 right now. I have a feeling my line is reall capped at 384, but since it's not even supposed to be active yet, I'm not going to bother bitching about it. On the 20th I'll call Pacbell and ask them to test my line, then move the cap up if it can take it. I'm hoping for at least 768kpbs.

tjll11a: Do you mean to see what your connection is? I use the bandwith meter over at DSLReports and also the one at 2Wire . I know there is more accurate ways to do it, but these are much easier and give you a good estimate.
