My clothes dryer pooped out on me. I have an electric dryer now but have gas available. I am looking to buy a new one but need some help. What models are most efficient in the $300 to $400 range. I'm sure gas is the way to go but may be wrong. Please let me know your opinions.

Edit: for spelling

Dont know if they are in your price range, but I have a Kenmore washer and dryer for the last 15 years, and they work like new.

We have the Whirlpool Duet washer/dryer set. Figured that the savings over the 15-20 yrs life span would more than make up for the high front-end cost. And my jammies are soft and clean. mmmmm

I guess that's not much help to you.

Get the best Whirlpool you can afford. Avoid GE, Hotpoint (also GE), and Frigidaire.

our ge washer and dryer lasted a good 20 years, but we bought it 20 years ago, so things might've changed by now.

For those who don't know, Kenmore is rebadged Whirlpool. Yes, really. :)

I own a Kenmore washer/dryer set. Great stuff. My Mom's Kenmore washer was purchased in 1967, In 1999 (last time I checked) it was still running. It's had the drive belt replaced ONCE for a total maintenance cost of like $20. Beat that.

Whirlpool=Kenmore. Pick "whatever brand"is offering the best warranty at the tme.

not to flame michaeld...but kenmore is made by all different companies....it depends what model you are looking at, they use frigidaire, whirlpool whoever will make the product for them...as for your moms washer...if she spent the $300 to upgrade it, she would save that much money her first year in utilities and replacing clothes that are ruined by the machine

You'll recover the $50 extra for the gas dryer in a year or two. And the clothes will prolly dry faster. Go gas unless you don't have natural gas (i.e. propane)

Are you sure? NO!!! It can't be....my childhood dreams...all ruined!!

Seriously, I didn't know that...don't know what to say. My washer and dryer are about three years old and I've had zero probs.

HOILY CRAP!@ I just checked, and my washer says "Made in Canada." :( I'm SO embarassed. I looked at my dryer and couldn't find a tag...it's prolly in the back and I'm not moving the damn thing.

Well, they may only have one tank and half of an airplane, but them Cannucks sure can build them a washer!!

You guys are funny!! Thanks Rude5757 and all else who replied. I think I will go gas natural (not propane). I will look at Sear's first and then do a little more searching to see what's out there.
