first the diode blew cuz of overcurrent. then the replacement process blew the transistor. rather than spending man hours on the switching assembly, i ordered a new one =(

i dont recommend having a transistor blow up about a foot from your face.

What brand and model of drill? What caused the overcurrent? How did the replacement process blow the transistor? Lack of heatsink, or you wired it wrong?

A new diode and voltage regulator probably would've ran you a buck fifty, if you wanted to do the repairs yourself. 😛
