Anybody ever dealt with this crap before?

I made it a point this time to get a top floor apartment because I was sick of hearing noise above me. But now I have these downstairs neighbors from hell. I swear half the time I get up from my desk or whatever I hear these slamming sounds coming from below me :whiste:

I am 160lbs and not doing anything crazy I just think these people are mad they don't have a top floor apartment, the thing is they are going OUT of their way to make retaliatory noises while I'm just simply living my life.

You should go downstairs and assert your dominance by marking your territory.

Do you have wooden floors? Crappy or old construction can make for a lot of noise through the floor. Have you thought about purchasing a rug to limit the amount of noise transmitted through the floor?

Another option is to talk to them and see if your walking around is actually a problem.

You need to retaliate on their retaliation; frame them for murder - it's the only reasonable thing to do in this situation.

i had that experience not once but twice. eventually i understood that people are just paranoid, but i that's no consolation to you.

a couple things you can do.
1. try to be really nice. visit them, and talk about the noise.
generally, people tend to get annoyed more by noise they do not understand, once you familiarize them with who you are, they might warm up to you and take it easy on you.
2. go aggressive.
if the above fails, start a regime of loud music, at extremely regular intervals.
their metre of judgement will shift and in a short while they will not annoy you anymore for basic noises.
3. call the police.
if you are down to the last straw, call the cops. this has happened to more than one person, and what they do to you is exactly what they say you do to them.

Have any hardwood floors and a friend with a little kid? Have them bring the kid over and give him/her a bowling ball to play with. :whiste:

Here's a serious idea, file a noise complaint against them with your manager

You could try this: (if you like spending time with cops)

http://m.actionnewsjax.com/news/news/local/deputies-woman-set-elaborate-system-bother-neighbo/nmwRh/

deputies got a search warrant and forced their way through the front door last week.
They found three low-frequency speakers hooked up to an amplifier and a tablet playing an MP3 on loop.
Deputies said the subwoofers were facing down on the floor with dumbbells holding them down and could be activated with a smartphone.

Borrow a drum set and play it for a week or so. Then stop. They'll be so happy the drums have stopped they won't even notice your walking anymore.

Do you walk on your Heels? I have two really small guys that live above me and one of them at night for some reason makes a ton of noise. Like they're running around on their heels ..

In an old apt, the couple above us wore their shoes inside their apt. 100 year old building, hardwood floors. The girl's hard heeled shoes in particular sounded like fucking hammers.

Consider laying down rugs if it's hardwood, and not wearing shoes if you do.

if you don't want to go with the easy/obvious answer (re: talking to them), what about throwing down a rug or two in particularly high-traffic areas?

well if they do it only when you walk at least they're not doing it when you want to sleep or concentrate.

So no issue.

what kind of barbarians wear shoes in their own house? Hard heeled to boot (no pun intended)?

I had one of "those neighbors" about 20 years ago...

He was a married guy but didn't work (his wife was a nurse). He was caught several times in the parking lot staring into the windows of our female upstairs neighbors but always claimed he was just getting something out of the car when confronted. He would bang the ceiling just from us walking around, and called the police twice mid-day on Saturday when we were just watching TV. Both times the cop went down and yelled at the guy for wasting his time because the TV was at normal (or below) volume levels.

When my lease was up, I went to talk to the leasing agent. I loved the apartment complex other than that jackass so I flat out told the agent that it was him or me. I had always paid my rent on time for several years, and the agent said they already had 4 formal complaints against the guy. He and his wife (who was as pleasant as you'll find) were gone before the next week.

Move into a house.

Srsly, how much do you pay in rent? unless you live in the ghetto; your rent > mortage interest + insurance + taxes. Down payment, expenses, etc etc blah blah etc etc is can be overcome. stop being a bitch.
