Hi everyone, and welcome to myself.

On the Homepage there was some new naming the Dothan a "good" processor and people giving props to it.

I own one of those x86 Family 6 Model 13 Stepping 6 Genuine Intel ~1595 Mhz 2MB-LV2 Dothan's on my Inspiron 700m and I want to know how fast its this thing in the P4 scale. Some people says it?s a 2.4, 2.6, 2.8 even a 3.0. Since I don?t have the tools and knowledge to make a conclusion, this will be my first question in this forum.

I hope to learn a lot from you guys and someday help a newbie like me.

PS: Sorry for my English

It's awesome in some areas, so-so in others. In games and general use, it's up there with much faster chips, in encoding, it's only so-so.

The Pentium M based Dothan runs a lot cooler with a lot less power draw than the Prescott's. The dual core based on this technology should be an interesting spectacle to come. The only minor set back is that with its shorter pipeline it can only go so fast in MHz, but since the little Pentium-M is smarter than it's bigger brother, it makes only a minor set back. The only benchmarks I could find on this site where the ones using the mobile graphic cards. Mobile graphic cards have greatly improved however, and the benchmarks here show the Pentium-m beating out the 3.2 GHz P4.

Intel Pentium M technology will only improve in the months or years to come. Im actually excited about Intel's technology for the first time ever since I was introduced to computer hardware.

Regs, isn't Intel using the Netburst P4 based architecture for it's dual core chips rather than the Dothan P3 based? Dothan still has serious shortcomings in rendering and encoding vs the P4 & A64.

Yeah, Intel's first dual core desktop chips will be Prescott based, though slower than todays high end.

Thanks Boys:

LTC8K6, your article was awesome now I know a little bit more about the Dothan. It is a excellent chip for gaming, considering the gaprice between the P4EE/FX55. The only complaint is the pricy Mobo for desktops, but that wont be a problem in a near future. Exelents benches considering its clockspeed, and i myself was worried because my chip stated 600MHZ on a cpu speedtest but i didint know about speedstep.

A dual core designed just for gamers is a must?
