my dog just decided it was time for me to get a new cell phone

i was walking the dog along a local rirver today since it is so nice out. all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he decided he was going to take a swim. well, hes about 100lbs, and pulled me in into the river right behind him. my old trusty cell was in my pocket with all of the phone numbers i have accumulated over the past year and a half. now it is a paperweight with one red light that goes on. 🙁 now, i have no ones phone numbers. the only number i remember is my parents. guess its time to start searching the hot deals forum for a new phone, and start looking for some new friends to get numbers from 😀

doesn't amazon have some ridiculous deals on cell phones when you sign a contract? like you get money back or something?

Edit: letting it dry now is probably pretty futile. I assume the phone was on when you went for your "swim" and the fact that you tried to use it after pretty much means its toast. Had it been off and you let it dry completely before turning it on again, it probably would have survived..

Take the battery out and let the phone dry for a few days. It would have been better if you didn't try to turn it on, but it might survive.

I left my phone in the washer AND dryer 🙂. There's some white stuff on the screen but it's still fully fucntionable. All i had to do was recharge it.

its drying now.... wel'll see what happens. it was on when i fell in, and i knew it was the wrong thing to do, but i was forced by curiosity to try to turn it on right away

Yes, just try and leave it in direct sun light so that it dries. Do not try turning it on for a few days, your phone should come back to life at least enough for you to get the numbers.

i dropped mine right into a muddy puddle, it was on, and then shut off later, i tried to re turn it on and it wouldnt work. So i put in front of a Dehumidifier and let it dry out. now i still use it and nothing is wrong with it, but one button (down volume) wont work and thats not that big of a deal.

True.

Remove the battery now and don't even try to use the phone for a few days. You might be able to get your phone numbers after everything has dried out. The battery may be fried already, but the phone will probably be OK long enough to read your phonebook. (If the battery doesn't power the phone anymore, try powering it via the charger, or see if you can borrow a different battery if the charger won't power the phone.)

When you do try to get your numbers from the phonebook, it might be a good time to write your stored numbers down in an old-fashioned address book. You can keep the address book for back-up purposes, in case your next phone suffers in another disaster.

take out the battery, and take the phone apart as much as possible, let it fan out a couple of days, and see what happens.

good luck

Take out the battery and just let the phone sit and air out for a few days. I got pushed into a pool last year with my cell phone on - I tried turning it on too after a few hours. With everyday that it was allowed to dry, functionality returned. First day - it turned on but screen was blank. Second day - turned on, screen showed something fuzzy but from the sounds, it worked. Third day - screen turned back on and phone worked completely. I'm still using it over a year later. I can't guarantee the same for your phone though but hey you never know.

when i turned it on afterwards, the scrin went on, but just blank white, and the phones vibrating mechanism was going nonstop. not sure what to think. i wish i knew if it was gonna work, so i know if i should go and get a new phone today
