I can't even have a couple Doritos without her whining at me. She's looking up at me eagerly at this very moment, licking her chops. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that her suppertime is in about fifteen minutes... :)

if you want it to stop, don't encourage it. Never give her the doritos, or whatever else it may be.

That's true. Treats are ok, but only in moderation, they can wreak havoc on a dog's teeth. The best thing to do would be get doggie bones or some other type of treat.

I have to admit though, what you decribed sounds awfully cute.

My brother's dog was like that when we got her. She still begs, but not NEARLY as bad as before. Between us not giving in & occasionally dipping tidbits in pure mint oil :D she's not nearly as annoying as she was before. She's not nearly as fat, either.

Whats wrong with that. I know many a dog and cat that do that. I also know many a person that mooches to. If you are used to eating dog food wouldn't a dorito sound good?

Quit feeding it human food, it will eventually eat it's own dog food when it gets hungry enough

Mine dog never begs and seldom gets human food however, one day a plate of food was left for my son on the kitchen table and when no one was home that mut at every bit without leaving any mess like she washed the plate. Took us a while to figured what happened because my son left a message on the answering machine saying he wouldn't be home for a while and I know he can't eat with out leaving half of it on the place mat.

At first I was giving my dog a lot of table scraps too. Then, one day, the little ah heck decided to stop eating dog food. So, I got pissed off and decided not to give her anything at all that day. The next day, she was happily eating dog food.

I've also trained her so that she has to sit before I put dog food down for her. And then, she waits until I say "eat". Also, she wont eat food from my hand, even if I stick it right in front of her. She's only allowed to eat it once I toss it to her. Basically, all I did was put food in my hand, and wave it in front of her face. Initially, she would go for it. I would take my hand away and tell her "NO!" After a while she got the picture.

That dog's a belgium malinois (sp?). My other dog was much harder to train though. She's a rottweiler, strong and stubborn as hell. When I was training her to heel, I had to literally pull her, with her feet dragging, across the backyard. But I think it all comes down to willpower. Once the dog realizes you're even more stubborn, then you're set. :D

Oh, it's not a great problem. I'm fairly immune to it if I want to be because I grew up with a Wiemaraner that had the saddest eyes you have ever seen on a dog. Maggie comes close, but I usually just tease her instead of giving her any food. She's good about eating her dog food, but like most dogs, if there's food anywhere, she's hungry. When I was cutting up a chicken (cooked) for chicken salad earlier tonight, she was having a fit -- pacing, whining, wagging her tail. Poor thing, perhaps we should stop beating her and feed her occasionally. At least, that's how she acts like we treat her!

She just needs to stop growing -- our 40 lb "full grown puppy" is now tipping the scales at over 70! She's not fat either. I just hope she's reached her full size.

Holy crap that's a fat dog.

As for my dogs and cats, they're mooches too. But my family doesn't care.

My dogs don't beg, they know better. They wait until everyone's out of the kitchen and take the food off the counters, if they think they can get away with it. Both great danes, they're the perfect height for it. One has a grand total of a half an extra large pizza, two corned beefs, and a whole turkey to her credit. The other's better behaved. But they don't mooch. :) Just don't reinforce the behavior and sternly order the dog out of the room while you eat.
