my dog is limping

serious answers - it's been about a week and our small dog is still favoring 1 of his front legs when walking, but seems fine when running. We don't know what could've done it... perhaps because he often jumps up onto our bed (about 1 foot high) but there's a crevice between the mattress and the frame.

What can be done about it ... if we take him to a vet, do they do XRays or something ? How much does that usually run ? Should we wait longer for it to heal on its own - I believe it has healed quicker in the past and we didn't know what did it then either.

I try to squeeze every part of both front legs and he doesn't seem to be in pain.

How old is he?

Could be arthritis. Could be a pulled muscle. But it could be something very serious, so I'd visit the vet if it doesn't go away soon. I'm guessing $75-100 (maybe 50-100 more w/xrays) for a full initial checkup based on my experiences. They may not need xrays, he may be able to tell just by testing the range of motion on the limb and such.

he's about 8-9 years old... not exactly sure as we got him from a shelter back in 2000. He's not showing any signs of physical aging otherwise... he's still a ball of energy ... hopefully it's just a sprain or twist or something similar. Weird he can still run. His other dimeanors (sp?) seem normal too.

My dog was limping back in November. The vet gave him an exam but didn't take any x-rays. She prescribed him some Rimidyl (an anti-inflamatory pain med) and he was back to normal in a couple days. I think the appt and meds was around $150.

If your dog has been limping for a week and doesn't appear to be getting beter you need to get him into the vet ASAP.
