"My Documents" folder locations for Win2k

I'm upgrading a bunch of PC's at my work to win2k pro. What I was wondering (and i have looked at other threads) is how do I get each user's "my documents" folder to point to their shared directory on an NT 4 server?

for example, the current machine I am working on:

I have two accounts on it. One is the admin account which I am using, and the other is an account for the worker who will be using the machine. Using tweakUI, I can point the "my documents" folder for the admin account to wherever I want, but can't do the same for the worker account. (the worker account is a power user account) Any ideas on how to do this without making the worker account into an admin?

do it as an admin, then after it is configured switch the user back to a power user? is that possible, im not sure cause im at work and my win2k machine is at home...

Have you considered making the user account a *local* administrator (ie, only for their machine)?

That's what I did for this machine, but it seems like an administrator should have the power to change options like this for all users on the local machine.

It's a possibility, although I'd rather not. One of the features I like about NT systems is the ability to keep someone from accidentily screwing up the system. I only login with admin access on my home system about 15% of the time.

At my last job admin'ing NT workstations, we allowed many users local Administrator access with the warning that if their machine got screwed up because of something they did, all we (as IS) would do is ghost the machine back to its original state and they would be responsible if any data was lost (home directories for backup were available to them). It was actually fairly successful most of the time, although I was working with programmers and engineers with a decent amount of computer knowledge.

Yeah, I'm on the other end of the spectrum. There is no one here with any computer knowledge that exceeds turning it on, running MS office apps and playing solitaire. (I've got stories, let me tell ya)

So, I'd prefer to save myself the trouble of having users crashing their machines on a regular basis.

Have you tweaked around much with Win2K group policy ?

I know you are saying WinNT 4 Server. However, In Win2K server, there is a group policy that allows a folder redirection for My Documents folder.

You can even redirect my documents folder based on user groups.

If you don't already know, Open your Active Directory Usres and computers management, right click on your domain, properties, group policies tab, edit, windows settings, folder redirection, my documents.

I haven't tweaked winNT 4 server in a looooongg time. I hope similar group policy exist in NT4 Server.
