My Dishwasher does a horrible job.

I've tried different detergents, but no success. Even if I heavily rinse the dishes, there is still food stuck on them.

Anything I can do to determine what, if anything, may be the cause of the poor performance ?

Is the water heater in your house set high enough? Sometimes lukewarm water makes it do a poor job.

its either this, or the heater in the water heater isn't working...

You could try hitting her. That might speed her up.

my apologies in advance...

Run the hot water in your kitchen sink for a couple minutes before starting the DW. This ensures that all the water used in the washing process is piping hot, instead of washing your dishes with cold water for the first couple minutes.

This probably won't help, but it's a nice tip anyway. It might be time for a new heater for your DW, or just a whole new DW.

try checking the filters at the bottom. I know mine got clogged up due to lots of food collecting in the bottom. So I took the bottom wash arm off, took out some filter thing, then basically disassembled it and cleaned it up a bit. Depending on the model of dishwash you have, there's probably a hose connected from it to your in-sink food disposer. My old dishwasher's hose was all clogged up which meant it couldn't get rid of waste food. Try taking it out and cleaning it.

I've also heard that a vinegar wash helps in keeping things clean too. Try pouring some vinegar in with no dishes and running a cycle.

Are you nuking a lot of cheese quesadillas? That may be the problem . . . Melted cheese, once allowed to cool, is like unwashable.

It definitely needs more horsepower.

White-faced guages will also give it a half-second bonus in the quarter-mile.
