Currently I'm using a Dell XPS T500 desktop with 128 MB of PC100 ram and I felt the upgrade itch. So I went out and bought 256 MB of PC133.
When I put the DIMM into the 2nd bank and started up my computer, I saw the Windows ME screen and it immediately rebooted without saying anything. OK, so then I put the PC133 into the 3rd bank, and get the same results. I check the BIOS, and it detects the RAM, but since it's a crappy Dell BIOS, it won't let me change the speed of the RAM to 100 MHz. Then I take out the PC100 entirely, and put the PC133 in the first bank. The computer turns on, but nothing shows up on the screen at all. I can't even get to the BIOS.
I read up on Dell's support site for the mobo in this thing (it's an Intel reference 440BX board I believe) and it says it doesn't support PC133 at all. So, got any suggestions of how to make it work?
I was thinking that I could flash the BIOS to the Intel one and hopefully it'll have settings that will let me change the speed of my PC133 to PC100. Am I on the right track here? The BIOS I was looking at using can be found here. But, I'm afraid of screwing up my mobo completely since I've never flashed a BIOS using a version other than Dell's. Even then, I don't know if it'll have the right settings I need. But it's all I can think of. Any help would be appreciated.
