My Desktop vs My Laptop

I have 2 machines running wolfenstein the new order game on medium settings and i compared the FPS on both..

DESKTOP
intel core 2 duo e6850 (dual core)
4gb ddr2 ram
64bit win7 OS
HD7750 1GB ddr5
1440x900
around 25-35, cannot go over 35 FPS

LAPTOP
intel core i7 3612QM (quad core)
4gb ddr3 ram
64bit win7 OS
nvidia GT740M 2GB ddr3
1366x768
around 30-50, cannot go over 50 FPS

my question is, what is the problem with the desktop machine, i know it is old, but in this case, what do i need to replace to get decent FPS?
