I just remodeled my computer room. My desktop was bounced around and not shut down properly a bunch of times.

Now i finally set it into the spot its gonna be located for good. I turn it on and it gets past the intro screen where my motherboard's logo shows. It gets upto the windows screen... and seems like it goes into windows but the screen just goes black.

I can load it into safemode just fine. So its not like a crazy hardware issue. I am thinking its something with the screen resolution or something like that.

I checked the drivers and they all seem fine.

Anyone got any advice as to why the screen goes black when launching regular windows and not when launching it in safemode?

i wonder if your video card settings in windows is set to digital (dvi) but the lcd is in vga mode at the moment. (or some variation of that). just a guess.

When you say black screen, does it happen during or after the xp splash screen? Do you see the desktop background color first? Do you get a logon (ctrl-alt-del, or welcome) screen?

When you say black, does your monitor go in powersave or no?
Have you tried VGA mode?

Please post answers to the above, but here's something to try in the meantime...

Fire it up in safemode, run MSConfig.
On the startup tab, clear everything.
On the services tab, check the "hide all microsoft..." box, clear anything that remains.

Reboot to normal mode.
If it boots, one of the things you disabled is the culprit.
