My desk has the most awesome view

Heh. Heh. Whoever put the helpdesk there clearly worked the evening shift. I have the most badass view of a sunset EVAR.

And in other news, calling the helpdesk and allowing the phone to ring twice will not get you an answer. Why? Because I have no fewer than 3 phones on the desk and they all have the same ring. It takes AT LEAST one ring for it to register in my mind, and if I happen to be away from the desk helping someone in the lab, it'll take a few seconds for me to get there, and then I need one additional ring once the phones have my attention so I can see which one is lighting up. Some prick called me 4 times tonight.

<Ring...><Ring...><pick up>xxxx York Office helpdes...<click>

Furthermore, we have caller ID, but that only gets as far as the building - it doesn't give us the extension, so we can't do callbacks.

I bet you could set the ring to something different on the phones. Or put some loose change over the speaker of one of them or something.

If I don't answer the phone after you call the first time....don't quickly hit redial and call me again. I am either away from my desk or I just don't want to pick it up b/c I know it's you and/or I'm busy. Just leave a message.

They're ancient pieces of equipment. Those who have come before me have long attempted to modify them into something that you can tell apart - thus far they've managed to... Name each of them. And the printer.

On that same note... Every other extension has voicemail. WHY DOESN'T THE HELPDESK!? If someone wants to leave a message for someone, I either have to write it down or transfer them (which doesn't work half the damned time)

And... Why the hell are you calling the helpdesk to leave a message (unless you're a vendor)
