And in other news, calling the helpdesk and allowing the phone to ring twice will not get you an answer. Why? Because I have no fewer than 3 phones on the desk and they all have the same ring. It takes AT LEAST one ring for it to register in my mind, and if I happen to be away from the desk helping someone in the lab, it'll take a few seconds for me to get there, and then I need one additional ring once the phones have my attention so I can see which one is lighting up. Some prick called me 4 times tonight.

Furthermore, we have caller ID, but that only gets as far as the building - it doesn't give us the extension, so we can't do callbacks.
