My Dell Inspiron 4150 no longer charges its battery....so it's no longer portable :(

Hey guys,

I have myself a little problem here. I have a Dell Inspiron 4150 which will no longer charge its battery when plugged into the AC adaptor. Needless to say, this is a huge problem. I have tried multiple ac adaptors, multiple batteries, and putting batteries in the other bay (I have two), and I have even reformatted the laptop itself. All to no avail.

I'm going to be traveling abroad to Rome in less than a month (for school) so this is starting to worry me. I called Dell, and the tech briefly told me that I'm kinda screwed since I no longer have a warranty with them. He went on to tell me that its looks like my mobo is messed up, but I can't think of how that could be the case. ON the power meter, within windows, it tells me that it is charging, but the percentage of power will never go up, only go down. Regardless, I'm at a loss. Anyone have any help or ideas? Thanks in advance,

you got a new battery from dell and it didn't charge?

call dell and see how much a repair will be

The guy said a mobo would be around $200 which doesn't account for labor.

So if he's right, I'm screwed. Basically I'm hoping you guys can find that it's another issue 🙂 🙁

it's probably some part of the unit that comes attached to the new mobo.

I've had plenty of batteries go bad on dell laptops, but can't remember one that wouldn't charge. back in the day i used to fix powerbooks and i can recall something similar... there were like four possible parts that it could have been and apple usually had us replace one at a time until the problem went away. sorry i can't be more specific (it was like 5 years ago).

If you didn't spend the extra $$ for the extended warranty when you first bought the computer, you're actually ahead of the game. You might be able to ship it to them and get it back before your trip.

Good luck!

mainboards are in the $250 range on ebay, I would plan on using that as a "desktop" and sock away some cash for a new laptop
