My Dell has the Intel 810e chipset - is this ATA66 or 100?

As above. The documentation that came with the pc is crap. Go figure. If I would've known then, what I know now.......😛

Thanks Zab. Can anyone else confirm please? I can't believe that nowhere in the 300-page "Dell computers for idiots" manual that came with my Dell computer does it have the ATA specs listed! Sheeesh.

dbwillis,
Your Optiplex is substantially better than my little l550r. I believe yours has a 133MHz FSB. Mine is 100MHz. Also, the ATA speeds are a function of the North bridge. If it doesn't support ATA100, then you don't have it.

After looking up my drive's model number on Maxtor's site, I've confirmed that the drive is ATA66, so I highly doubt the mobo (810e chipset) is ATA 100.

ZABFLEX101, it looks like you are correct. 🙂 Thanks for the help, guys.

<< No prob

P.S., Dell uses really crappy parts, try not to buy them in the future (unless u get one for half price). JMHO

If you want a mass made computer, dells are fine. I can obviously make a lot better, but a lot of people go for comercials.

me\<---looking very ignorant right now. NOOOOOOO! I know what I'm doing now, but two years ago, I was way too intimidated to even think about building my own. So, I went for what was/is argueably the best premade out there. [/unignorant]

You ain't missing much anyway. ATA100 is more hype than anything. Newer ATA100 drives will default down to ATA66 or 33 so you don't have to worry about compaitibility.

The i810E chipset has an ICH0 SouthBridge, meaning that it is ATA66.

The i810E2 chipset has the ICH2 Southbridge, which is ATA100.
