since you did get it as a gift, call dell, tell them you got it as a gift and don't have warranty info. see if they'll help. that approach has never failed me.

do you know if it's the hard drive that died? maybe you can replace the drive if that's the case.

try it. call now. their 24 hour customer service should be available to their accessories also (i am assuming; i don't own any myself). sometimes they overnight replacements. try to see if they'll do that.

if you call now, you won't have to spend time waiting for a customer service rep or whatever the case may be since it's not peak hours.

eh, if you know it's the hard drive that failed, like clicking sounds or the player turns on but you get a disk error, you can probably just get a notebook drive with the same physical dimensions and replace it.

that model number shows that it's a 15gb hitachi travelstar drive.

If you are going to a nice place like hawaii and can afford to fork out $250 for an MP3 player for the sake of using it on your vacation you are:
A. a brat who won't appreciate hawaii because he is inside enjoying the free hbo and his mp3s
B. Loaded and should rejoice accordingly

What island are you going to?
