My dealership sent me an ad about wanting to buy my car (Mazda3) at UP TO 90% of purchase value

I have a 2005 Mazda3.

the ad said they're giving up to 90% purchase value towards a new car.

I've just lost all respect for my dealership. i thought they were different in the scum ads/tactics. :|

I don't see what's wrong, Mazda3's are in high demand, both new and used. He's sending out ads to tell you if you're thinking of trading to a new car that he'll give you a good deal. What's wrong with that? It seems very reasonable.

i thought of it as one of those "no credit application will be denied" come on.

the *up to* 90% set off warning bells.

it's just to get you to the dealership to shop for cars.

i'm thinking the trade in offers will be the same standard lowball trade in offers, and there's nothing the customer is getting special from this ad.

Possibly, but most likely they have a list of used cars they want because they can sell them very quickly with a high price. Anything small and fuel efficient would be great for them to get.

The OP is right ... the stealership is NOT your friend.

What's wrong with this you ask? Well let's see:

"the ad said they're giving up to 90% purchase value towards a new car." Did you catch the "up to" part. They are trying to get him onto the lot by any means. He would NOT get 90% ... but he certainly would get UP TO (less than) that.

Even if they did give him 90% for the car they would NEVER give him a good deal on the new car. It' all about the bottom line.

OP, I'm surprised that you had any respect for the stealership in the first place. All they want is to get into your pants (pocket that is).

It's bullshit. All they are doing it trying to get you to come in and buy a new car, and they are doing it by lying and saying they "need" your car. Happens all the time.

And you wouldn't even sniff that much for it, either.

Where's the dealership? Wouldn't happen to be Cary, NC, would it? I did a job on a Mazda 3 there yesterday and saw they were having one of those sales.

I wish they'd make me that offer for my 08 Mazda3. I love it, but I'd prolly trade it in for a Mazda5 for my wife, then trade her old van in for a used Corolla and a motorcycle.

Just an FYI, I have gotten these same letters in the past on almost every car I own.

UP TO is a pretty wide range.

Another vote for: Why are you upset?

They Sell Cars, they want to Sell another Car, they want to Sell a Car to You. For sure they won't give you 90% of the original Purchase value of your Car, but they still could make an offer that would be hard to beat. Your car is simply too old to warrant that level of a Trade-in, but many people who also recieved the Offer may get that amount. This is simple Marketing on their part. They have likely sent the exact same thing to all their previous Customers and even many who were not their Customers. If you don't want to buy another Car right now, don't, but don't hold this against the Dealer. :Q

NOBODY is going to get that amount for their trade. Nobody.

All this is, is a mailer to get some people to come in who were already about halfway thinking of buying a new car. This is simply designed to push those folks over the edge and have them buy.

That's it.

Possibly, but they might offer that amount to someone who just bought a vehicle. It would be a very rare occassion though.

OK, shoot. But you *do* realize that before you agree to to sign anything, you will have a firm number. And if it is less than you're willing to accept, you may say "no." That's usually how haggling works.

Yep...it is rare to find someone stupid enough to trade a vehicle they just bought, but it does happen.
But from experience, that's not who these mailers are aimed at, though.
