My eldest daughter, (almost 23) called me to announce she eloped!
He is 30, very nice man from all accounts and crazy about my girl

Why did they elope ? because I've been out of work since April and she didn't want to burden me with wedding bills.Needless to say I'll be holding a nice reception for them when they return from NJ !!!

notfred,

I think they were afraid when I'd said that I was gonna web cam the event on the web :)

LOL, now to focus on how to be the nice, kind mother in law that everybody is happy to have visit :)

My g/f and I have thought of doing something similar. We just don't want a big wedding with big bills, and all the hastle of setting it up and what not. If we could throw the wedding and honeymoon into one trip with just the two of us, we'd do it.

Our only holdback is that we don't know how our parents would take it. Both her parents as well as mine know that we are going to get married, it's just a matter of time. We don't know if we would upset anyone if they weren't there for it.

Jean, as a parent, did it bother you much that you weren't there to see it?

Oh, I'm the same age as your daughter as well :)

Norika,

I'm happy for her... and yes mad at her too, she's my eldest and I most certainly wanted to help give her a nice day. However, they're
very interested in having a big BBQ reception so I'll just have to try to make that as special as possible. LOL, my son in law is in worse trouble with his mother, he's an only child and she broke down into hysterical crying when told she'd missed his big day.

Kinda getting weepy here, how can she be married? it seems like yesterday that I carried her home from the hospital

<< Uh, oh! Anybody have any good Mother-In-Law jokes?:D >>

---------------

A man finds a lamp, rubs it, and sure enough a genie appears. The genie tells the man he may have 2 wishes. He will get whatever 2 things he wishes, BUT whatever he gets, his MIL will get double. The man thinks for a while & then proclaims "1. I'd like a million dollars. 2. Beat me half to death".

----------------

I always know when it's the mother in law knocking at the door the mice throw themselves in the traps.

Russ,

LOL, the poor guy is already afraid of me , my daughter's told him all about how I used to show her unsuitable men friends my steel covered training bat and speak meaningfully about how much money orthopedic care runs in MA :)

HAHA at vi_edit. Nice joke - BTW go and elope :) I had my recent wedding paid for by the bride's parents thank God. I know that if we had to foot the bill it would have consisted of a visit to the courts and a night out! :p

Congratulations! My parents eloped also, and did it again after I went to college. I did eventually find them again, though. ;) Best wishes to the happy couple.

vi_edit, when I got married I did it in my inlaws' back yard. They live out in the country, so it was pretty nice. All the parents got to come, yet completely avoided all the aggravation of a big wedding. Just had some small tasteful decorations, short ceremony, then went out to dinner with everyone. I worked with a guy who got married in the Bahamas and combined that with the honeymoon. Their parents weren't too thrilled even though they knew in advance.

I eloped at 25. We went to Maui, it was great. We called our parents soon afterwards and no one panicked. We did it this way because so many of our family don't get along too well (especially my PARENTS!) And other family members were threatening a huge occassion. So we did what felt best for us and have never regretted it. The only person I regret not having there was my younger sister...

Seriously, no offense by this. But did she elope because she was pregnant? I know more people i grew up with that eloped because of a baby instead of the traditional way so Im just curious.

Congratulations though...

I think 23 isn't a problem. Sub 21 is iffy for getting married IMO.
