The RS is nice, but a bit pricey, in all honestly I think the E46 M3 is still the best choice out of them all, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didnt try one of those as well

Oh btw I forgot to add something.

The best part/fun with the car is when the 2nd air filter starts working ;) Fat, fat sound.

great review.

Are you really in the market to buy the IS-F? I keep getting a call from the dealer asking me to go test drive it. I was oogling it at the car show and a lexus rep approached me. i just don't want to give them the wrong impression that i'm going to buy the car anytime soon and i dont want to waste the dealers time. but i really want to test drive it hehe

Not really, I couldn't afford a new car like that, but used in a couple of years sure. The dealer asked me my purchusing timeframe and I told him 6-12 months.

Go for a test drive, the car is a lot of fun. I actually had a dream last night after test driving it. It was a pretty vague dream but I know there was an IS-F!

cool. i just remembered that my gf is in the market for a used RX3xx SUV- so it will give me an excuse to get the dealer to let me test drive the IS-F. :)

Nice review. It does sound badass but if you liked this car but don't like the price and don't need the performance check out the IS350. It is plenty quick but doesn't have the awkward appearance of the IS-F. I drove the IS250 and then drove the IS350 a few weeks before we bought our IS and the 350 is sooo much more addicting than the 250. I kind of wish we had bought the 350 actually...I'd probably like the car a lot more.

Jules speaketh the truth

Now, go drive a new M3 or C63 and let us know what you think of it. When i drove both of them they didnt mind me pushing it at all, thats kind of the selling point of the car.

Lexus seems to be like that. When I attended the IS-F wasn't out but I tested the IS350 - pretty impressive (much more than the IS250 which threw I-give-up warnings on the dash) but they were frowning upon racing it through corners. They don't really want you to push it. BMW definitely does, though I'm not sure they have M3s out. 335s are for sure. I just came back from an Audi event 10 minutes ago and they tell you to squeal the tires. I finally got my test run of a Q5 and the tires squealed alright... body roll is aplenty even at moderate speeds... not what I had hoped for but it is not BMW handling to begin with. Seems all they did to compensate for the added height is space the wheels out further. If anyone cares about the Q5, I can go into full-review mode. We then stepped into an A6 for full-on acceleration then full brakes. I hit 56mph in no-time and slammed the brakes. My heart was against my chest. What's weird is that being in the passenger seat you can feel it a lot more (we drove in pairs). They let us go on each run 4 times so it was pretty satisfying... you really get a good sense of the vehicle... can't learn that in one 25-sec run or a road test drive (which we also did).

BTW, this is why you should never buy auction cars. ;) Or used if you can help it.

You know, most salesmen will happily let you goose a car if you prove you're a safe and cautious driver first, and ask before you do anything out of the ordinary. Roaring down city streets at 60 MPH will make any salesman kill the fun in a hurry.

No, he said before hand that he only takes the car out to "select appointments". He actually drove it out of the showroom in front of me. He told me beforehand that we aren't going to be doing anything crazy, that he will boot it a bit for me when he is driving, and then let me drive it "normally". No highway, no other roads other than the ones he chooses.

Not to sound cocky but I was def a better driver than him, even my dad said the guy wasn't too good behind the wheel.

I actually don't think it looks bad, but both the C63 and M3 are better looking.

Even with the auto, I would go C63 in that group without a second thought.

Ive driven both and can honestly say for the type of normal driving people do (not track duty) the C63 is a godlike machine. The exhaust note, the torque, the way it punches you into your seats, its great. The M3 is definitely a more track worthy car, but it really feels a bit soft on the low end torque.

It's a tough call, they all look pretty good to me, but I would have to say the Lexus/C63 standout more than the M3 to me.

The Lexus destroys the C63 in fuel economy though ;)

I know the m3 is the omg awesome car, but it really does just look like a regular 3 series. not that that's a bad thing though! the is-f does sort of look like the is350 too, but it's got that extra look that makes it nice imo.

Yeah that's a blessing and a curse, I've developed something of a fetish lately for the big German motors.

Couple that with a C class and it's a winner for me, I think the new C class is a sexy looking car even in normal trim.

If I had to have a manual, I'd go BMW

If I had to have an auto, Benz

Lexus if I couldn't afford the others

Oddly enough the IS-F is the most expensive new, the C63 is the cheapest

The M3 is here in Canada. I'm talking about Sedan.

Actually the coupe is even more expensive than the sedan, the Lexus is cheaper. Mine was fully loaded with every single option for 68 k.

edit:

Base price list

63,500 - C63

69,900 - M3 Sedan

71,300 - M3 Coupe

65,300 - Lexus IS-F

What kinda of fuel economy does that get?

Site says 16/23 MPG (US gallons). Not bad at all...

My truck gets 16/20. That is horrible for a car.

I know it is a sports car. I'm not here to bash. But i have one comment. Any car that gets numbers similar to my truck should not be on the road. It's 2009, I think we have the technology.

Um no, I got 9 MPG in my LR3 HSE that is bad. And 16/20 for that size engine and the way it is tuned is not that bad.

Well, it is a 6.2 liter V8 that you basically have to feather in order not to destroy your tires.

The M3 is a bit rev happy in the city
