I tried to test drive the IS-F a few months ago but was told the weather isn't good and there's too much snow. Lexus said it would call me in the spring to let me know when I can come :) Going tomorrow at drive an 09 IS-F :)

Yay, lol.

Btw I'm test driving new cars because I will know what to buy used in a few years ;)

Ill let you guys know how it goes :D

UPDATE:

So I just got back from test driving the IS-F (if you want to call it a test drive...)

The dealer said he is going to drive the car first to show us the features. Said we are going on back streets only around the block and not on the highway. He takes it out, presses on the gas a few times, and keeps reminding us not to drive close to the curb, etc, as if we have no clue what we are doing.

After a few minutes he lets me get behind the wheel. I take it out and drive casually in automatic mode. I give it some gas and I can feel the power, it goes like crazy. After my 5 seconds of fun the dealer tells me not to use the brakes and go into manual mode, because the brakes are "expensive" as he put it.

I go into manual mode and the car is def faster, at the end of 2nd gear I'm already going 100 km/h on a back street. The steering is responsive and the radius is pretty good too, I made a comlete U-turn with plenty of curb space left, something I def cannot do on my car. After a few more crazy accelerations the dealer tells me "that's good enough sir, that's good" spoiling my fun. I put my pops behind the wheel and he didn't accelerate at all, I guess he didn't want the dealer to shit his pants anymore at this point.

The interior of the car is awesome, I love the blue gauges and everything is pretty high quality, I think I liked it over the CTS-V which I sat in. I only got a few beeps on my drive to indicate shifts etc, but I honestly didn't even pay attention to them because I was having a blast driving not to mention I was focused. People bashed the car pretty bad for the "beeps" but I didn't find them annoying at all. The seat is pretty narrow and grabs you at the back to keep you in place. I'm pretty muscular and fat and I can see how it might not be comfortable on longer trips, or for someone who just has a wide back. There is suprising room at the back, I never rode in the new IS series but I did drive an IS 300 and it wasn't as roomy from what I remember.

The exhaust note of the car is bad ass. Dissapators or not, fake exhausts etc, the sound is a deep rumble that brings a smile to your face. Even at idle on a stoplight, you can hear the "bum bum bum bum bum" rumble of the exhaust, it's cool :) Performance wise it's what I expected, 416 HP in a pretty small car, nothing to complain about. I'm not a track person either so I honestly would'nt care, the car serves it's purpose in more ways than you could possibly ever need.

The only downside of the car is my last point. Like my dad put it, it's like licking a lollipop behind a piece of paper. You have a beast car, but, so what? 50 km/h over in Ontario get's you $ 10,000 and your car impounded for 2 weeks. Having a car like this in Germany makes sense, but the practicality of it here is almost none. It's just for show and that odd time here and there where you press the pedal and pray there are no cops around.

just get a used CTS-V (in a few years) and call it a day. it's the fastest 4-door around the ring for a reason :D

There's a reason you don't see many used ones, its because you'd be a complete and utter idiot to buy one over a C63/M3/S4

Yea I'm trying to get to one of those but last time I checked there were only 2 in Ontario and not leaving the showroom unless purchused.

Yea it's an automatic, yea people always bash the IS-F, but all in all it's a nice car, and it doesn't get out performed by the M3 that much.

I would but we won't reach 50 km/h anywhere in that area without hitting a cabby or a Jarvis street hooker.

Yeah, I saw the Top Gear review of that car and I pretty much agree with everything they said about it...and I own an IS myself.

Its also more expensive than an M3/C63, if it performs "almost at the M3 level" why would you pay more for an obviously inferior car? Heck even the mufflers are cheezy

Personally, I would prefer to do a test drive in rain or snow. That is the best way to see how the vehicle does certain things like steering, going and stopping in bad weather. Just about any car will do good in nice weather, so the test drive is meaningless, except for how well you can see out and wether you like the interior layout / comfort.

Wow we got some IS-F haters up in here! Come on the car didn't do that bad...I even saw a few youtube reviews where it was favored.

According to someone on tv, the fake nozzles are actually exhaust dissipators. I was like WTF?

What's an exhaust dissipator?

It's to make noise and look interesting, but isn't a functional part of the exhaust system AFAIK.

The IS-F is certainly a nice car, one that I wouldn't mind having, but it has the unfortunate position of being pitted against a notably superior competitor, which makes it very difficult to recommend.

Well if it's to look nice and make noise, than it certainly is functional. Look at motorcycles, the whole purpose of the exhausts are to look nice and make noise, nothing else. If Lexus really needed a quad exhaust, I'm sure it would make one, too bad the Japs build shit clean and tight.

How does it make noise if it's not part of the exhaust system? Speakers?

Edit: I got a 09 bike myself and I'm tearing off the exhaust ASAP.

Nice review. It does sound badass but if you liked this car but don't like the price and don't need the performance check out the IS350. It is plenty quick but doesn't have the awkward appearance of the IS-F. I drove the IS250 and then drove the IS350 a few weeks before we bought our IS and the 350 is sooo much more addicting than the 250. I kind of wish we had bought the 350 actually...I'd probably like the car a lot more.

Jules speaketh the truth

Now, go drive a new M3 or C63 and let us know what you think of it. When i drove both of them they didnt mind me pushing it at all, thats kind of the selling point of the car.

Yea I plan to, also the CTS-V if I ever get the chance. Another car I'd like to try is that Audi RS.
