For the past 7months or so, i have been experiencing on and off terrible sequences of pain in my wrist. They would last anywhere from a day, to a week. It completely immobilized my wrist because using the muscles were too painful for me. I know enough about anatomy to diagnose myself with what is likely carpal tunnel syndrome.

My question is what do you guys use as wrist supports for typing and mouse pads (this is my right and mouse wrist)?

Can anyone direct me to a specific brand of keyboard and mouse pads that are meant for carpal tunnel.

I work at a bank and i'm behind a computer all the time, and i also love playing games on the computer, so there is no way in hell i'll stop, heh. But i woul dlike to be able to get some good support while i work my wrist back into shape, thanks.

Just learn how to use your keyboard/mouse properly. Don't rest your wrists on the desk. Lift them up... exercise your wrist ever 30 minutes or so.

Here's the requisite "stop jerking off" reply, so I'll save everyone the trouble...

I got beat to it on this one. I saw the title and thought maybe I could be the one to say it.

Invest in a ergonomic Keyboard. I love them, helps a lot for me. Can't even use normal keyboards now for more than 15 mins.

Just make sure your wrists are well supported. Can't think of any brands offhand............

...how much typing is required for bank work? I used to have the habit of chicken scratching, then I tried to learn typing the real way. My wrists would get sore so now I'm back to chicken scratching. My job doesn't require me to type fast though.

Well what I would highly recommend is varying your lifestyle. I had carpal tunnel problems a year or two ago, manly because I was using my wrists for everything everyday. However now that has all changed and my wrists are fine, as I am in school (use different parts of wrist musle for writing with pencil), my job doesn't envolve heavy lifting with the wrists like before, and I am usually on the comp less than before.

However in your case, you are kind of deadlocked. I forget what site reviewed it or what it was called, but it was like a glove for your wrist with a 'bag' full of soft beans which supports your wrist and hand. The reviewer said he had carpal tunnel, and after using the glove for a few weeks, the pain has all went away.

I was reco you stop playing games for a while to give your wrist rest time while not at work. Seriously you're gonna be playing no games if you have to get an operation.

But other than that I've gone from having major wrist problems to the point I'm at now where I have none and partly that's from playing less games but I think at least just as much from using a support under my wrist (get from a computer store or anywhere) so that my wrist is perfectly flat without the wrist being "down" on the desk and my hand and forearm up. That's what really kills it. Also you want your keyboard as flat as possible. Some people actually recommend having the far end of the keyboard lower than the close end and raising your both wrists up significantly so that your hands aren't above your wrists ever. I found that worked a lot as well.

I have a one of those Belkin mouse pads with the built in gel pad. I love it! I use it with my optical, cordless mouse and it's sooooo comfortable to use. A good friend of mine injured his right wrist years ago weight lifting and he has become amodextrious (sp?) when using a mouse. He uses a mouse that you can use in either hand and he'll switch up half of the time and use the mouse with his other hand. I tried it for a while and it's surprising how fast you can get used to it. Since your wrist is that hurt right now, I'd suggest trying to use your left hand for the mouse for now.

become ambidextrious and if you can switch hands mid jerk then 'you the man now dawg' as always watch out for friction burn..and it might even help with your gameplay.. :p

thanks for the advice, i will look into all of these options

i already started jerking with the left hand as we speak! difficult but doable ;)

If you've got CTS, many times it requires surgery.

I'd see an occupational medicine doctor. My dad is one, and he sees a lot of administrative employees with severe wrist pain.

I had serious wrist pain one time in my right wrist. Same thing, had X-rays, flouroscope (sp? -- awesome, real time X-ray and I could see the bones moving!), and an MRI, but the doctor couldn't find anything. Most likely cause? Stress, not related to physical activity. Once some things settled in my life, the pain went away and hasn't returned.

Learn to use the mouse with your opposite hand. Works wonders.

Sorry to bring an old thread out of the grave, but I've got some questions if you guys don't mind.

How do you use a mouse and keyboard "properly" or where can I find out? Is it good to excersize my wrists often or once in a while when using the mouse, by twisting them around and stretching them to the sides and stuff? They crack that way so I'm not so sure it's a good idea.

Uh oh... time to get a higher chair, heh.

Get an Ergonomic keyboard for sure...
I've tried one of those, but it didnt seem comfortable at all. Does it really help? Assuming I get used to it.
