so i think i want to build my dad a comp for xmas. he has a dell laptop thats about 3yrs old and the dvd/cdrw drive just died a couple of days ago. i want to build him a desktop so he can do all of his work on a desktop and take his laptop when he needs to use it somewhere. it needs to be relativly quiet and i want to spend $2-300. the main goals are stability and quietness and a functioning comp.

used for:
My dad creates highly sophisticated websites with HTML
email, word, im, soliatare is the extend of gaming.

i do have leftover parts form my old comp and i will be upgrading my comp just a little bit so the stuff i take out of it will go in this comp.

What i have:
P4 2.4ghz 533 FBS
512 pc 2100 ram ( when i get 2 gigs for mine i will put the gig i have now into this place. )
DVD-rom
CD-rw
520w modstream from my comp ( being replaced by a seasonic 600w)
17in sansung LCD (being replaced with a 2005)

what i need.
mobo:
case:
HDD: 80gb seagate
GPU or integrated: If separate then fx5200 with passive hsf
CPU HSF or passive i know it idled at 50C with stock HSF and no airflow.
KB/Mouse

what do you think of this? and what do you sugest? thanks for all your opinons.

I wouldn't go passive cooling on that CPU. I have a 1.3 GHz P4, and with the stock HSF and no case fan, it still gets hot enough to throttle under minimal load.

Integrated graphics should be fine for what you're doing, and will help your budget a bit.

If you can afford, you might want to step up a bit on the HDD. The current sweet-spot in terms of cost per GB is around 250 GB.

The Antec Sonata is a nice case, and comes with a PSU that's more than good enough for your setup, but it might be too expensive for your budget.

You just upgraded from a 520w OCZ to a 600w seasonic??
You better tell me you are doing a 4-way SLI system because my SLI 7800GTs system barely use 300w @ full load.
